domo_kun_sai: 23 year old Former MMA? He retired early.

There's tons of tiny mma fights around here. "Retired MMA fighter" probably means he had a couple shows and is currently unemployed.

The theif really wasn't of the stealthful variety now was he...seems the whole town was involved in this. Why did't the guy just wait for the cops? probably because he wanted to keep his car.... Most of these things end in the cops faking sympathy and then heading off to a donut binge or the car being found and returned...after being wrapped around a phone pole, pissed in, etc....

It seems everybody is a MMA fighter these days.

Bishop Thornton allegedly jiggled the handles of several locked cars in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue, Davenport, last weekend before he came to an unlocked one

FAIL tag for the person who leaves their car unlocked on the street.

Did they get the Creedence back?

"Get out, this is a car jack"
"Well, of course this is a car. But my name's not Jack. It's Greg."

FTFA it appears carjack means something different in the town called Quad CIty, WTF that is. I'm guessing it's near where Jack McBrayer's simpler cousin lives.

Well, he did better than that one car thief from a few years back who got clipped by the owner from his balcony with a pistol.... you know, the one who a jury said he was justified via self defense.

/Yay sympathetic juries?

I used to be an MMA fighter, then I took a Chuck Liddell to the knee.

That is justified. You have the right to protect your property.

I'm guessing he got off better than the guy who broke into Brandon Lee's house.
Yes, that would be Bruce Lee's son.

And of course this was before Brandon retired.

/rip Lees
//too lazy to look up article
///I think that guy tried to slash Brandon....slashies!

Obligatory douchey tribal tattoo.

But seriously, good for him. The thief is lucky he didn't get his arse handed to him.

A person with a couple of local promotion MMA fights under his belt is still not someone a normal person would want to mess with. Same goes with, say, a former high school wrestler, or a former Golden Gloves boxer.

jaytkay: This is what I think when someone says they are into MMA

It tends more toward toughguys (guidos or their local equivalent, cops, former or wannabe military). It gets some socially maladjusted nerds, but since training is actually difficult they tend not to be the rounded shoulder variety.

Not a bad record for the small shows (new window) and don't forget college wrestling is pretty popular in the midwest and therefor so is MMA. There really isn't much else to do in Bettendorf, IA.

Miletich Academy ain't nothin' to fark with.

/Actually I doubt this guy can afford that school.

As someone who as practice martial arts for several years as a hobbyist, I tell you, I dont like messing with the MMA fighters. Its a much different mind set than someone who wants to work on self defense and physical fitness.

Might I inquire as to which MA is your hobby and what exactly is it about MMA guys mindset you don't like ?

Knowing these things is my hobby

You don't mess with MMA fighters. Don't do it. First their cardio is better then yours. Second they can take punishment. Third their mind set isnt protecting themselves, it's hurting you. I blame the Muay Thai influence for this.

While Muay Thai is a more aggressive MA, you can hardly specifically blame it on one in particular. The goal in the MMA is not to defend your self through a match, you have to actively work toward hurting your opponent if you are going to win whether through knock out, submission, or points. All three require you actively attempt to hurt your opponent.
