Dude, puffins are AWESOME. Saw them in the wild a few years ago in Alaska. They can dive up to 200 feet in the water in search of prey. Pretty kickass. Plus they just look freaking cool. Took this pic at the Alaska Sealife Center.

My favorite from the animalsbeingdicks.com site is bird fight club: 2 sparrows in a group are fighting and all the others seem to pay no attention until the fighters fall out of sight and then everybody wants to see if it still goes on.

This reminds me of a time when I was living in a fairly good location except there was a strip of section 8 row houses next to the property and hot summer nights would have the inhabitants sitting outside on their porches, drinking, and loudly arguing and fighting. I gained a new appreciation of the local squabbling sparrows, interpreting their squawks as such as "Hey You LOOKING at MY woman!"

Why do birds loudly fight (which might attract predictors like cats) while wild bunny rabbits don't? Because birds can jump up and fly away while rabbits can't.

The next time you see a group of birds perching on a wire and squawking just interpret it as them insulting each other in an environment that they feel safe from outside attack, just like my loud section 8 neighbors.
