I had hoped Egypt would join the 21st century with their regime change. But I didn't actually expect it to happen.

Why do you consider women "helpless" compared to men subby?

2011-12-19 12:05:19 AM
The citizens must be pretty enraged if they're willing to go up against guys with guns and body army and all they have is rocks.

I am so enraged, disgusted, and nauseous that I'm at an almost complete loss for words.

As a person of middle eastern descent, can we just burn, nuke, and salt that whole farking region already?

Funny, when people pointed out that Egypt was just getting a worse set of powers in place of Mubarak they were called anti-muslim bigots. Same goes for Libya. I'd love that it weren't true but it looks like this will be a long and difficult transition. I can only hope that the rest of the world works in support of a free and just Egypt before its hobgoblins seize control.

I'd say almost anyone beaten up by 4-5 thugs could be described as helpless.

Yeah and as someone living there, no.

usa government no stranger to beating, shooting, killing pretty much anyone around the globe. anyone, anytime, anywhere, regardless of guilt or innocence. rich powerful people use violence daily and surround themselves with multiple layers of well armed and trained enforcers. you have to be a huge bastard to be on top, and a bigger bastard to stay there.

You sound as though the idea of the US allying itself to repressive governments is a new and/or surprising phenomenon. I think it's you that needs to do the reading.

I'm not defending those crackdowns because those clearly involved police brutality, but I'd say that pales in comparison to a half dozen men with huge metal batons beating defenseless men and women for minutes on end, or chasing after them shooting wildly. It's comparing apples to orange-colored metal batons.

That woman really should have shaved and gone on a diet before getting beaten and stripped by the police. A disappointing lack of consideration on her part.

jingks: Why do you consider women "helpless" compared to men subby?

This is true. Men and women are physically equal and women are not helpless compared to a man. I'm pleased about this, I can now beat women whenever I want and I'm just being politically correct.

I never understand what justification there is for attacking peaceful protestors. Rioters and stone-throwers, yes, but where have we come as a society where arresting or pepperspraying groups of people who are just sitting there or holding signs is acceptable?

That said, comparing the Occupy movement to this is absolutely apples and oranges. I just wanted to vent.

It's so cute that you think they are on par with another. Fark libs love turning every world event into something about American politics (see the Kim Jong Il thread for immediate examples.) Guess what, this isn't about you sparky. Trying to co-opt the arab spring as part of your revolution chic may get you laid at parties but the American protesters worst moments had nothing on incredible risk that the Egyptian protesters went through. Those kids at the UC school getting maced are still at their school, still talking about he evils of the one percent and with the exception of a bad day, are doing better than 99 percent of the world. People in Egypt died, they continue to be in danger and they continue to fight for something that is bigger than the OWS trend that will die down when the new iPad comes out. Show some respect to the real protesters and revolutionaries. Maybe then you'll be worthy of wearing their face on your Urban Outfitters bought t-shirt 10 years from now.

You know, arming a force protesting the government kind of makes them into a revolutionary army...

Are people just now getting offended because of these atrocities because people are taking pictures and uploading them? I'm pretty sure it's human nature/condition that there are a good portion of people of all race and religion who like to abuse people and do messed up things. Literally, for all of mankind, this stuff has been happening, and people are still surprised when it happens?

Humans are a disease to this planet, let's stop acting like world peace and utopia is somehow at all achievable. Sooner we're wiped out, the better. People who procreate on purpose confuse the crap out of me. Why not adopt, the kids already born into this messed up world, might as well help it rather than further perpetuate this kind of crap.

And my original comment was just about the weird psychology at work where you got these guys in uniforms and armour who are suddenly brave enough to stomp people weaker and less armoured than they are. Like "Ooh, I look wicked awesome in these jackboots...and I suddenly feel like stomping someone's face."
