How the hell is Jim Breur not 92? That douche is as unfunny as unfunny gets.

2011-12-18 01:23:14 PM
Same goes for Norm McDonald. No way he should be higher than the low 80's.

No way should Joe Piscopo be ranked that high.

jan brooks is higher than keenan thompson and will forte? wtf?

i mean hooks. see - i don't even know her f*cking last name!

What is this I don't even...

The sad part is that I can only remember the original cast and a handful of others like Murphy, but putting Farrell @ #2 is troll bait. This list is a troll circle-jerk.

2011-12-18 02:47:34 PM
List fails without Hartman @ #1. And generally in most every other way.

2011-12-18 02:51:08 PM
Tina Fey, Jan Hooks, and Gilda Radner were all better than Amy Poehler.

Adam Sandler and Jane Curtain should have made the top 20.

2011-12-18 02:53:19 PM
Outtaphase: List fails without Hartman @ #1. And generally in most every other way.

The top 5 slots are pretty much interchangeable (except for Ferrell - he carried the show for a while, but is a late first rounder).

Somehow Tina Fey and Amy Poehler broke the top 10 and they are both about as relevant as the socks in the bottom of my cloths hamper.

Bump those two outside the top 25 or so and pull in Martin Short and Chevy Chase, and I can see that top 10 being ok.

/no one after 2001 should be in the top 25-50
//Will Ferrell sucks too

2011-12-18 02:59:01 PM
I'll wager that most of you in this thread weren't around when SNL debuted. I was and I've watched it from the beginning. Trust me, this list is a joke. A total joke. Case in point: #12 and #29.

2011-12-18 03:01:28 PM
This really feels like a list they're still working on rather than a completed article. Or else there would be explanations for everyone.

It's okay to admit you don't know who Morwena Banks is -- she only appeared on one sketch and in one weekend update bit. I don't think it's fair to rank her at all.

2011-12-18 03:02:54 PM
Bobby Moynihan was ranked too high.

In what universe are Martin Short and Chevy Chase more relevant than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. They might be better comedians, but they are in no way more relevant.

2011-12-18 03:09:54 PM
Gary Kroeger must have been the personification of ennui as I'd never heard of him until now....

SilentStrider: Same goes for Norm McDonald. No way he should be higher than the low 80's.

I love when he was on Letterman talking about being fired from Weekend Update, about how he's still gonna be in regular skits, but he notes how he stinks in those.

Chevy Chase is in a critically acclaimed comedy on NBC. Are Tina Fey or Amy Poehler? Exactly.

/oh, wait.

2011-12-18 03:14:46 PM
Jan Hooks was one of the only reasons to watch during her stint (not counting Phil Hartman who I agree should be #1).

But Gary Kroger and Louia Louie Dreyfus once did a Donny & Marie skit that made me 'long' for Julia for years to come.

/props if anyone can find a clip
//bigger props if anyone, anywhere, ever can find a video of Alec Baldwin as "The Mimic"

Jay Mohr not even on the list. Nice.

2011-12-18 03:17:49 PM
Miller pioneered the idea that the guy who anchored Weekend Update shouldn't have to do much else on the show, and that came to look as lazy as it sounds.

Except they're forgetting about the fact that since about 2000 the Update anchor has also been the cast's head writer (Tina Fey, Seth Myers).

I'll be slightly annoyed if Charles Rocket isn't way down near the bottom.

<goes to check>

hmmm... "78. CHARLES ROCKET (1980-1981)". Not completely satisfied. Should be ten slots lower, at least.

2011-12-18 03:24:59 PM
No mention of Al Franken?

2011-12-18 03:27:50 PM
Ugh.

There is about 30 people on there that no one even remembers was an SNL player. They should round out the bottom.

And, I don't care what you say, Jimmy Fallon, Keenan Thompson, and Fred Armisen should be higher. Adam Sandler should be top 10.

Norm MacDonald @ 26? Fark me. I like him, I really do, but he was awful on SNL.

2xhelix: No mention of Al Franken?

zato_ichi: There is about 30 people on there that no one even remembers was an SNL player. They should round out the bottom.

Again: "Regular Cast Member". Not: "Also Featured This Episode". Explains why there's no Steve Martin.

He got most of the cast fired including Loren Michaels.

Ha! I look forward to the upcoming Breitbart derp about liberal Hollywood conspiracygarrbl.

Sorry, but there isn't really another explanation for having her at 92 other than not liking her politics. She wasn't great, but there were far worse.

2011-12-18 03:34:21 PM
Chevy Chase should be much higher than 26. He was the star and the main reason people watched the show back when it started. I know he did a lot of boring shiat since, but come on... #26 and Jane Curtin is ahead, at #24?... nah

2011-12-18 03:35:25 PM
Amy Poehler is good, Amy Poehler is consistently funny.

However, Amy Poehler is no Gilda Radner.

Emily Litella. Roseanne Rosannadanna. Lisa Loopner. Quick, name three Amy Poehler characters - well, two, I'll spot you Amy's turn at being Jane Curtin.

2011-12-18 03:35:47 PM
No Jay Mohr?

Does the writer have black guilt?

Where's Chevy Chase?

Why are so many of the recent cast members so high on the list, SNL isn't as funny as it was with the Sandler, Spade, Farley years.

2011-12-18 03:42:10 PM
Dear God, that 1980-1981 season was a clusterfark. At the time, I was surprised the show wasn't canceled after that season.
Oh, and with the exception of Lorraine Newman and Garrett Morris, the original cast should all be Top 10s.

/Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute FTW

2011-12-18 03:50:56 PM
OKcomputer79: No Jay Mohr?

Jay Mohr was never a regular cast member; he was always a featured player and not a very notable one.

2011-12-18 03:51:05 PM
Okay, went through the whole list and...

1. Will Ferrell as #2? Yeah, whatever.

2. Bill Murray lower than Will Ferrell. Huh?

3. There were only 92 regular cast members in 30 years? Seems kind of low. There have to be some people missing. Someone noted Al Franken. I can't remember seeing Cheri Oteri (not that I have a particular thing for her, just didn't notice her there at all). Others missing?

4. Okay, yeah, I get Eddie Murphy as #1. The Best of Eddie Murphy SNL got LOTS of repeat play in my house over the years. My favorite Murphy sketch (totally underrated) was him as the Black History guy explaining the history of George Washington Carver.

5. Hartman...totally underrated. Not always the edgiest performer they had, but an always reliably good one, and personally, it's so awful that he's not still around. (Anyone see the updated Pee Wee's Playhouse? Oh, to have Cap'n Carl back again with stuff to say about Pee Wee's Purity Ring...)

2011-12-18 03:59:54 PM
list fails in a lot of ways but Gilda being outside the top ten is the biggest fail on the list.

2011-12-18 04:01:21 PM
Amy Poehler ahead of Gilda Radner? get the fark out of here

Actually, I think she was that bad. Name ONE funny character she did. Or a single sketch she was key to making funny. You can't, because there aren't any. Even before I knew she was a whackadoodle right winger I constantly wondered who she was sleeping with to stay on the show for so long.

pretty much this, especially when listing "Who?" entries among otherwise much more notable entries.

I don't really have a problem with Eddie Murphy in the top spot as I think it's his post-1990s career that taints the outlook of anyone saying otherwise. I would agree that Hartman should've been #1, though.

2011-12-18 04:10:48 PM
No Andy Kaufman? Was he not a cast member?

2011-12-18 04:17:45 PM
SilentStrider: Same goes for Norm McDonald. No way he should be higher than the low 80's.

I watched a few episodes when he did the news. He would hit the punch line, and > How he managed to stay on the show is a mystery.

List fails as John Belushi is not at #1.

Victoria Jackson was a very funny Edie Gorme.

Now please name a time George Coe made you laugh.

No, she was brutal. She was beyond brutal. She made Ellen Cleghorne look like Gilda Radner. She was as good in skits as Norm McDonald, which is to say, not at all.

But you're right, she was somehow with the show, miraculously, for a lot of years, so that ought to count for *something*. She should be ranked somewhere in the late '80s.

2011-12-18 04:48:20 PM
I'm surprised no one has posted their own list yet, so I'll start...

2011-12-18 04:48:58 PM
The top 10 were pretty solid. The next 10 a lot weaker ... and then it gets even slacker from there on down.

2011-12-18 04:54:07 PM
What a lame cop out of a list. If you're going to rank them and give explanations, you have to commit to it all the way. My Freshman English teacher would've failed this if it was an assignment.

HempHead: He got most of the cast fired including Loren Michaels.

Actually, that was the season after Lorne left. Rocket got Jean Doumanian fired.
