Good. Fark Congress. Indefinite detention? How about Unlimited Information? You want respect? Show respect.

I've got a pretty good idea who's going to be the test case after the NDAA is law.

Good. Maybe the Occupiers can make a surprise visit to the senators' vacation homes.

2011-12-18 02:28:19 PM
I love that both of my senators voted no. Wyden (D-OR) is especially vocal about internet freedom and knows how the damn thing works.

Including the family members is kind of a douche move however.

I normally show disdain for Anonymous.

This is not one of those times.

true...but one could take the position that these senators went their first - this new law doesn't respect anyone's rights.

Isn't this all pretty much public info? Committee memberships, top campaign contributions... I did a very cursory scan of the data and didn't see much to get worked up about, but all in one place is handy.

Family members is controversial, but not non-public.

Skimming the document... I'm not really sure what it is they think they're dumping. There's about three or four of the Senators that they really go after and the rest is just addresses, names of immediate family and chief staffers, phone numbers and committee seats. Most of it could have been grabbed off Wikipedia.

On top of that NDAA has been changed so many times from its original text its unclear what it actually says anymore. Last time I checked it was so vague as to be completely worthless.

But I return you all to your false outrage anyways.

I can see a few reasons:

1. Although the information may all be publicly available it may not all be readily accessible unless you know what you're looking for and have a lot of patience, consolidating such information in one place makes it much more accessible to many people.

2. By doing this, Anonymous will probably generate a fair amount of media attention on this issue which may raise awareness.

3. This reminds the people in power that electronic monitoring can go both ways and that "Little Brother" is watching them.

Wow. The first bit is pretty interesting (my emphases):

Robert J. Portman is a Republican Senator from the state of Ohio. He has made himself a target as an advocate of the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act), but we are truly disturbed by the ludicrous $272,853 he received from special interest groups supporting the NDAA bill that authorizes the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. Robert J. Portman, we plan to make an example of you.

Anything that shakes the masses from their torpor before their fundamental rights get legislated away is a good thing. Even if no reason is given, the act itself will lead to heroic children calmly explaining the unbelievable realities behind the "FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:HACKERS HATE JESUS" email to mom.

nothing like this comes out highly refined the first time around, it takes a while to build a good pokeball.

give it time and there will be google maps and photo recon and vehicle photos and plate numbers added in.

if anon takes this and runs with it (never guaranteed) things will get real ugly.

I hope the senate likes pizza and playstation 3 and gay porn magazines

I wonder if this is similar to the process Fox goes through when deciding on how to frame their reports.

Will this cause the senators named to keel over dead? No? Then it's not quite what's needed right now.

Bhasayate: I doubt this will have any effect on anything at all.

It won't. The constituents of these disgusting, shiat-eating scumbags have to actually vote against them to change anything and that's not going to happen because the voters in this country who aren't brainless are too lazy to go to the polls most of the time. But at least Anonymous is trying to get people fired up and provide information.
