yeah, but it'd be an awesome snack for a gamer night holiday party and/or game session. if your dice fail you, then you eat them.

if we had these at our gaming sessions, we'd be running out of dice pretty quick.

I going to guess crappy JavaScript coding and/or Flash ads. Turn off JavaScript and try loading the BoingBoing page again - if this works, you may want to consider installing the 'NoScript' and AdBlockPlus plugins.

/Also, what happens when you mistake hard plastic dice for chocolate dice?

Aren't all dice polyhedral?

2011-12-18 06:02:53 PM
It's rather silly, all the expense and muck they went through. Using triple-strength gelatin and a bit of cornstarch would make a perfectly usable temporary mold and cost about twelve bucks. Well, maybe more if you make a huge rack of them. And have to buy the dice in the first place.

2011-12-18 06:07:24 PM
What's with the chocolates with real dice still inside? Making candy while drunk, were we ;)

Yup. Serious overcompensation for the fat body, lank hair, and glasses.

Well yeah, a lot of them are pagan, I can't argue with that. But a lot are hot too. At least they were when I was in high school.

When I was a HS nerd, the woman of our collective nerd hive's dreams was the gamer girl we hung out with who was not only a hot blond girl of the sort we usually never even got to TALK to, but had her own custom-made sword, and loaded her own bullets for the .357 magnum she inherited from her dad (and was a fair hand under the hood of a car or field-dressing a dear)

It was the first time any of us realized that such a creature was even possible and much heartache and backstabbing ensued in the competition for her. but alas, her affections went to chiseled blond demi-god of our group who was the spitting image of Jason Connery (which was a BIG deal in the late 80's early 90's), and who, amusingly enough came out to me a decade later when I caught up with him at a Con

There's no way that those would roll well. Then again, the way my dice have been rolling for me lately, it might be time to try something new.

To roll poorly once is misfortune.
To do so twice is carelessness.

Seriously considering shelling out the $$ to make my own chocolate dice molds. Seriously, Chocolate and dice!!!!! I'm having a nerdgasm here. Just need to work beer into it somehow and it would be the icing on my nerdy nerd.

Now I'm wanting to use that process to make molds of some of my common minis so that my players can eat the minions they beat.

Any reason subby would link to a blog blurb on the topic instead of to the actual site?

What is the purpose of the cornstarch? Dusting the molds so the chocolate will release? That would cause the surfaces of the cast dice to have a matte finish, not at all shiny, and quite unappetizing. Your chocolate would look improperly tempered no matter what you do.

You know being inept I'd not try to make the molds but I bet given the molds I could make the candy.

Business opportunity here folks. Make the molds for sale.

SpinStopper: What's with the chocolates with real dice still inside? Making candy while drunk, were we ;)

If you read the comments those are actually chocolates that she has painted with orange dyed cocoa butter to make them look more like real dice, not dice that are covered in chocolate.

CujoQuarrel: You know being inept I'd not try to make the molds but I bet given the molds I could make the candy.

How do you fill the mold? When you contemplate the nature of that you'll understand why molds like these aren't sold.

2011-12-19 03:06:32 AM
I wouldn't even bring these near an actual game table.

I mean, sticky finger grossness aside, it's only a matter of time until someone has a serious enough lapse of attention to chomp down on an actual dice and breaks a tooth or chokes. Then you're out a die.

OKey I never read the instructions BUT it doesnt have to cost 100. You can get the mix yer own silicone for molds at any craft store or on line... find a small bowl mix the medium and plunk the die in. When hard cut mold and remove die. pour chocolate. tada

2011-12-19 09:27:33 AM
I have got to make some of these, my group would love this!

Nerds aren't virgins. If they can afford $100 chocolate molds, they can afford hookers.
