Considering how much of the Falcon is held together with spit and a prayer, Han Solo should be on there.

Subby: The ten greatest MacGyvers in science fiction, for EXTREMELY loose values of the variable "science fiction"

Um...none of those were even in the neighborhood of not being sci fi. Closest would be, maybe, Stargate, but only because the aliens are the mythological characters of Earth.

I would say that on the top of the list should have been Chief O'Brien. If only because he had to suffer.

Yeah, I was expecting Webster to show up or something.

Or, well...Harry Dresden. Let's face it, trapping a Fae Lord with razor wire and a .44, amongst other things, is pretty MacGyver.

I need to get my eyes checked...I read that as MacGuffins, not MacGyvers.

Didn't Picard do some MacGyver shiat in that Die Hard episode?

My dad is hardcore sci-fi nerd to the point of angrily ranting about fantasy masquerading as sci-fi. He's watched almost everything on the list.

What's subby's definition?

And why not Carter? Does she not make a Macgyver crack to O'Neil in the first version of the Stargate pilot?

Not to mention there was some big time pulling-solutions-out-of-arises on BSG, SGU and even Voyager.

If you mean an outtake scene, yes: Link (new window)

I would agree she is more deserving than Rhaadneee.
(spoken in Seinfield's voice)

And what about Miles O'Brien? Smiley pulled everyone's fat out of the fire across two different Trek series including the goatee universe.

ronin7: Which of those weren't sci fi?

Personally I don't consider comic-books or animated kids shows as "sci-fi" within the normal definition of the term, and if you do, the Dexter can't hold a candle to Phineas and Ferb

Forgot.

Most of the list was crap - basically, "I need this piece of gum and that box and this string and then a bunch of magic shiat happens". Decent MacGyvering will at least have some premise of how, exactly, a device works - that's where the "sci" in sci-fi comes in.

E.T.? We'll buy that - he made an automatic repeating transmitter out of a kid's toy, a record player, a sawblade, and a fork attached to a branch. We saw how it worked, if not how he recorded anything onto the sawblade.

Bill and Ted? They stuck an antenna back together. Even this counts compared to some of the other stuff, which really belongs in "fantasy" more than "sci-fi".

I can think iof a movie that SHOULD be on the list. It's not really a sci-fi movie, but still, when you jump-start your jury-rigged time machine with a bolt of lightning, it counts a hell of a lot more than any of that fantasy crap.

you dont have a clue what MacGyvering means do you?

Hint... it has nothing to do with spending alot of time and money and research to put something together while testing each component multiple times.

What about when you have to build it IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS?!

The Iron Man Mk I armor was built while Tony was held captive by...well, whatever organization you want it to be.

Macgyver == using chocolate bars to seal a leaking vat of whatever
Macgyver != using a welding torch that you put together from two broken welding torches to weld the leak in the vat of whatever.
