Not sure this thread is going to get much love, But my wife and I were big fans, saw her a few times and have many of her CD's.
If you haven't heard her and you like jazz, african, or blues.. hunt down her music.
She will be missed.

Didn't make it in before the hipsters claimed her.

Shoot, she's so 1978. I would never listen to anyone who had already won an award. Hell, most of my favorite artists haven't even been born yet.

Subby here. Ms. Evora's Miss Perfumado was my go-to cd during my music store days for customers looking for an introduction to world music with female vocals. The cd also ended up in more than a few get-well gift baskets.

"Sodade", the first track on Miss Perfumado.

RIP, Barefoot Diva

Heard this last night on NPR while driving home from a gig. Not gonna claim I'm the hugest fan but I have a couple of her albums and always liked her stuff. Discovered her when I was going through a big African music phase many years back.

For those biatching about the headline, it's a callback to the Etta James story.
(I guess the other singer on death's door is Whitney)

Had to remember her as "Black," subtard?
Not "Great?"

No, Aretha Franklin.

Exactly. Etta and Aretha are both very sick. And Cesaria was from Cape Verde, so "African-American" wouldn't work in the headline, much as I wanted to use that and not "black."

And "legendary" is a better description than merely "great".

/there'll never be another like her
//want "Sodade" played at my funeral
///along with "Danny Boy" by the Muppets
