And so far Paterno's only real punishment (besides permanently tarnishing a 50+ yea career) is getting his name taken off the Big Ten Championship trophy. Maybe the Big Ten should start a new Lawrence Phillips-Maurice Clarett Award for Off-field Excellence. Paterno would win by a mile this year. Tom Bradley can even write Paterno's name on a post-it note and add it to the inaugural trophy.

velvet_fog: Maybe the Big Ten should start a new Lawrence Phillips-Maurice Clarett Award for Off-field Excellence.

I like that idea, though to be fair, you'd probably have to add Thunder Collins to the trophy; I can't think of any former Big Ten players who are currently in jail for first-degree murder.

None of this should have ever come out. This will bring Penn State to its knees and hurt a lot of people who had nothing to do with the rapes. They should have figured out some way to postpone the day of reckoning.

Hey, that logic worked for the bailouts, right?

The thing is, I don't completely believe he has cancer.

Sure, he might have cancer, but given all the insanity around this, I can easily believe that they're faking cancer to get some cover from all this child sodomy nonsense.

It must suck when you have so much pride in your school that you incorporate it into your fark handle only to find out that same school willingly looked the other way while countless prepubescent boys got butt-farked. But making excuses for some asshole who apparently thinks ruining someone's weekend is worse than little boys being ass raped isn't doing yourself or your school any favors.

You scummy little weasel; that's not what it says at all. You are totally lying about this article's meaning or your reading comprehension is pitiful.
FTFA:"Paterno told the assistant football coach [McQueary] he would talk to others about what he'd reported.
Nine or ten days later, he told the court he met with Curley and Shultz and told them he'd seen Sandusky and a boy, both naked, in the shower after hearing skin on skin slapping sounds."

There is no implying that he doesn't remember when he told the others. Or that he doesn't remember when he did it. Quite the opposite he *does* remember and he is coming under fire for waiting a week and a half to act upon these very serious charges.

Do you acknowledge that what you originally posted was misleading if not outright false?

Also, do you acknowledge that Joe Pa should have dealt with these allegations immediately?

RTFAA Paterno didn't wait to report 9-10 days. It took Curly and Shultz 9=10 days to speak with McQueary. Not quite what you are claiming.

Great smack down. 06Lion is forever farkied in grey now as "Scumy Little Weasel"

It's grimly fascinating to read about all the details of the coverup coming to light. It's cowardly men like these that enabled me and my brother to get molested and forever change our lives for the worse. Kids aren't safe anywhere from scum like this, not even in church.

Max Awesome: It's grimly fascinating to read about all the details of the coverup coming to light

It is a cover-up.
A conspiracy.
A crime itself.
And those in the circle of that should be dealt with as harshly as Sandusky will be.
Time to send a message.
To the schools, the churches, the camps, and any where else.
If you do this, you will be imprisoned.
If you know about it, you will be imprisoned.
Zero tolerance for a farking doobie?
For a DUI when no one was driving a car?
For looking like a "terrorist?"
Those things buy hard time.
Farking kids in the ass?
Right now, this nation of pussies has a lot to answer for.
Right now, this nation could, and should put the fark up and send a strong message that ALL involved will be felons, and put away.

Paterno didn't witness the abuse so the writermust be talking about McQueary.

2011-12-18 06:46:16 PM
Craziest part of this story is the missing DA and his computer and connections to the CIA.

2011-12-18 11:45:36 PM
So the article says that McQueary told Paterno basically that the two were naked in the shower together (which, if you're in a shower, you're probably naked). This would seem like it was on the same level as the stuff that happened in '98, where Sandusky was inappropriately touching kids but the cops and the state (who investigated him having adopted kids and whatnot) decided it wasn't a big deal.

So clearly Paterno should have assumed that what McQueary meant by "naked in the shower together" was "anal rape." And Paterno is a monster for not interpreting it that way.

Gotcha.

From Yahoo...
McQueary said, " told him I saw Jerry with a young boy in the shower and it was extremely sexual in nature." McQueary said he didn't use the terms "sodomy" or "anal sex," and only described the "rough positioning" of Sandusky and the boy. On cross-examination, he repeatedly was asked why he wasn't more specific.

"I gave a brief description of what I saw," he testified. "You don't go to Coach Paterno [then 75 years old] and go through great detail of sexual acts."

McQueary said Paterno responded, "You've done the right thing. I know it's tough for you to come here and tell me this, but you've done the right thing."

McQueary described Paterno as "shocked and saddened," and said the coach slumped back in his chair upon hearing the news.

"I'm sorry you had to see that," Paterno said, according to McQueary. "That's terrible. ... I need to think and tell some people what you saw, and I'll let you know what we'll do next."

McQueary said he was at Paterno's home for about 10 minutes.

About "nine or 10" days later, McQueary said he received a call from Curley, who said Paterno had relayed the Sandusky story. (The grand jury presentment said Paterno has summoned Curley to his home the day after McQueary had visited.)

...

Naked in the shower with a boy? Doesn't take much thought about whether or not I think that's wrong.

Implied sodomy of a boy? How much thought does that take when it comes to taking action?

And then you keep enabling Jerry in raping kids by supporting him & his rape grooming "charity"?

ITG shiat aside, how much thought does it take to figure out what's the right thing to do about a guy who has been repeatedly caught with young boys in inappropriate situations, including various acts of sodomy?

/Only one thought. Become the winningest D-I coach evar.

Pratty: What I don't get is Paterno had a perfectly fine out. Couldn't he have just said "They told me they investigated and didn't find anything"? Or did I miss something?

If it was one incident... if it wasn't someone you knew like Mike McQuery... if it was anybody other than Joe Paterno, who is supposed to be about higher standards for everyone & has a shiatload of power within Penn State... MAYBE you let it skate by if a subordinate is accused of raping a child.

There's nothing "fine" about Joe having an "out" about anything within his program. This is Joe Paterno. This is Penn State. There's not supposed to be an "out". There's supposed to be the right way, and Joe's path fell far short of that.
