It's awesome living in a neighborhood with a BBQ place. Feels good to walk outside when it's 75F outside, the sun is shining, and the whiff of smoked ribs is in the air.

You live in heaven. Cherish it.

I used to be a vegetarian. Then my friend, Bill, introduced me to BBQ. Bill is 71, from Louisiana, and has been BBQing since he was a teen. He's been my mentor for a while, now. I'm no pit master, but I have about a dozen years practice under my belt and know there's no gas in BBQ.

The Headline reads: Another redneck BBQ explodes as neighborhood is treated to flying ribs

But TFA says: Two men burned as gas can explodes during pig roast

Subby, were you thinking of a cookout when you wrote BBQ? Because you most certainly cannot "have a BBQ".

I understand the point you are trying to make, but language evolves and you are wrong.

Noun 1. barbeque - meat that has been barbecued or grilled in a highly seasoned sauce
barbecue
dish - a particular item of prepared food; "she prepared a special dish for dinner"
2. barbeque - a cookout in which food is cooked over an open fire; especially a whole animal carcass roasted on a spit
barbecue
cookout - an informal meal cooked and eaten outdoors
3. barbeque - a rack to hold meat for cooking over hot charcoal usually out of doors

At 3yo my son could light his own charcoal briquettes and grill his own lunch. Five years on, he runs two grills at the same time; One for the entrée and the other for the veggies. He makes his own dinner rolls and pies. His favorites are pumpkin and pecan. I'd like to take this opportunity to announce that my son rocks.

But if you use a George Forman, you should put a plastic container of gas on it and crank it up to high. That is the only way to have the proper result.

I prefer charcoal but have used propane for tailgating or other quick GRILL activities. Propane is a convenience method. If you're going to make true low and slow BBQ, why would you want to use propane?

Why not? it's just an energy source for the flame. It's the wood that matters. But I do agree with the low & slow concept. What does "true" have to do with the source of the heat (flame)? It's the temp, wood, rubs, and sauces that count. And of course the amount of time.

Now if you want to argue.... Propane is crap to wood charcoal for grilling. But grilling is a different subject.

The charcoal adds flavor that propane doesn't, particularly on long cooks. Most people I know that use propane do it because of the convenience. I grew up using charcoal so I'm used to it. Propane grilling is the same as cooking on the stove as far as I'm concerned. And once I found out about a chimney starter, that made charcoal that much easier.

You're the first person I've seen that likes propane for long cooks.

That. Grilling with charcoal is farking easy to do with one of those. You don't even need lighter fluid to get it going; only newspaper.

Well I guess if you don't want to monitor your rings of coal, temp spikes, and if you have consistent smoke amounts, then you want to stick to wood coals only.

Me? I'm good with a 12 hour propane burn on a container of wood providing the smoke in a controlled environment.

Maybe some things are better if you go through the pain.... me? I good set of tools, a bit of science, and a remote probe that alarms at the right temps (grill surface, and meat internal), make it almost magic with out pain.

Sort of the difference with early on dating... Sure, you could pay a lot for the prep of the date like an expensive dinner & a play, drinks & and sweet talk, but me? I'll go with the natural science of a healthy hike to a swimming hole talking common interests, and follow the beach time with a nice homemade lunch, you still get where your headed, but in a much more pleasant way (and it cost less). You might even had the none BS time to actually like her for her interests. Consider work free BBQ in the same light.

You can with either be treated like a God, gain what you want with less effort, and learn more a along the way since you had time to explorer other things.

ife should be about the learning... not the effort. That whole 99% sweat thing? I guarantee it was stated by someone that worked too hard to get where they were headed in 20/20 hindsight.

Do the practice with alternative ways, and you might agree with me.

The best BBQ is more art than science, this is why you are catching heat, no pun intended.

You missed the boat Sir.

Grilling is not the same as BBQ. Charcoal (wood charcoal is better) can be used for both... Propane if you love grilling is only for expediency. But propane can be used for BBQ if your tools and methods are right.

Not saying you didn't have reading comprehension. But grilling and BBQ are both separate arts in cooking.

CasperImproved: video man: nobius: CasperImproved: nobius: CasperImproved: Notabunny: video man: It's awesome living in a neighborhood with a BBQ place.

Sorry.... but you are wrong. Propane works well in the smoking process. It's all in your equipment, and the woods used.

/But your humility to the BBQ gods gain you favor... so +7 on your post.

Uh, what? I was just saying it's easier to get a charcoal grill going with a chimney starter. Where did I ever say BBQ and grilling were the same?
