If it lands in water will it get wet, or will the water get it instead?

Actually what we should mainly worry about isn't the "getting hit" part- the "it still has toxic fuel which will also burn up along the way" part.

I'm sure the media will figure that detail soon enough.

1999 2012 was the year that the Indian Russian nuclear satellite went out of control.

If the toxic stuff burns up on the way, no big deal. The problem is if it doesn't burn up and the fuel tank impacts earth intact, but even then from what I've read only something the size of a football field would be dangerous and only for minutes/hours before the gas dissipates.

Sometime, a human will get killed by a meteorite/space junk, to be the first would be an honor, a proud way to go. If the big one is coming, i'll make the pilgrimage to be at ground zero.

What a damned shame. Looked like a really interesting mission.

*sigh* Stubby and anybody actually worried about this, you know that two other satellites fell to Earth this fall, uncontrolled, and hit only ocean, so remotely that nobody's even all that sure where, exactly. There were no witnesses (as far as I've read, anyway) to either reentry.

No LIVING witnesses, you mean.

Awesome movie.

The Phobos-Grunt spacecraft tips the scale at nearly 14 tons. The probe is full of several tons of propellant - a hefty load of toxic hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide fuel. This propellant, which would have sent Phobos-Grunt toward Mars, was left unused after a malfunction with the probe's engines stranded it in Earth orbit instead.

Woah. Should make for a nice re-entry show.

True, but were they full of several tons of toxic fuel? I think not.

Well she was walking all alone

Down the street in the alley

Her name was Sally

I never touched her, she never saw it

When she was hit by space junk

When she was hit by space junk

When she was hit by space junk

"In New York, Miami beach

Heavy metal fell in Cuba

Angola, Saudi Arabia

On Christmas eve", said Norad

A soviet sputnik hit Africa

India, Venezuela, in Texas, Kansas

It's falling fast Peru too

It keeps coming, it keeps coming, it keeps coming

And now I'm mad about space junk

I'm all burned out about space junk

Walk and talk about space junk

It smashed my baby's head, space junk

And now my Sally's dead, space junk
