fusillade762: The 90's sucked. Deal with it Gen-Y'ers.

It was a pretty great time to be in High School, the way I remember. Hair metal had gone away, grunge and alternative music was really starting to be more widespread... Lollapalooza was worth going to. Gas was still pretty cheap (89 cents-ish) so road trips were common. Nobody really cared about cell phones or the internet (at least among my friends) but we had Nintendos and Segas.

The 90's sucked before 1997.

The 90's were filled with trying to keep the 80s gravy train going, but with neon.

For a generation that will have to save this country from the weaknesses of the Baby Boomers, you'd think we could have done better than "All That".

As opposed to the 80s, when there was no neon?

Wake me up when they bring back Alex Mack...zzzzzzzzzzz

Only things I think I watched on TeenNick were Clarissa Explains it All, Welcome Freshmen, Hey Dude, The Secret World of Alex Mack, and The Adventures of Pete and Pete

as someone who did watch All That in the 90s, I am perplexed by the reminiscing over the show. Ditto Rugrats or Hey Arnold.

/Rocko's Modern Life or nothing at all, biatches.

The TeenNick I watch basically only shows Degrassi all day. What TeenNick are you guys talking about?

Well...that's because the only shows you could watch on TeenNick were Clarissa Explains it All, Welcome Freshmen, Hey Dude, The Secret World of Alex Mack, and The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: The TeenNick I watch basically only shows Degrassi all day. What TeenNick are you guys talking about?

The NickTeen that used to be on in the afternoon after school that kids in the 1990's used to watch because it was the only thing on. Imagine if you can cable with only like 50 channels and only one had kids programming.

2011-12-17 04:12:47 PM
Throw me in with the Pete and Pete crowd. Also Welcome Freshmen, Salute your Shorts, Rocco's Modern Life and Hey Dude were pretty much all I'd watch in the 90's

Yeah, it seems with the new retro line up, they are saying "hey remember these old shows we ran?" Meanwhile, they are only semi-old. P&P, Salute, and Hey Dude kick the crap out of All That, etc.

The 90s gave us "Lewinsky" as a verb.

My wife was watching some Teen Nick earlier. I think they're way too liberal with the laugh tracks.

I'm amazed this doesn't get rerun somewhere.

though I take umbrage with the idea that it was better than Rocko's Modern Life.

My nostalgia is for the 80s, it will be interesting to see if Gen Y feels the same way about the 90s. i doubt it. i think the 80s was a particularly warped decade:

All that sucked major donkey balls. Clarissa wasn't my cup of tea because I wasn't a teen girl, and they really do need to start putting more of their 90's lineup on Teen Nick. Doug was a pussy I can't believe they are still showing that crap. Replace Doug with Rocco, All That with Salute your shorts.

Rocko's Modern Life, Alex Mack, etc. I'd watch that.

Teenick brought back freaking Kenan and Kel. Come on.

Alex Mack. She had that whole tomboy-girl-next-door thing going for her.

The "90's are All That" line-up sucks. It was All That, Kenan and Kel, and two episodes of Doug for months. I stopped caring. Then my friend told me Salute Your Shorts was on, and that was awful when I watched it. In retrospect, all of Nickelodeon's live-action programming sucked except for Are You Afraid of The Dark? That lineup should be cartoons only.

fusillade762: The 90's sucked. Deal with it Gen-Y'ers.

But it was 20 years ago, so this nostalgia revival is right on schedule with all the ones that came before it. It's always 20 years.

People approaching 30 are starting to feel "old" for the first time, as if their childhood were some other time when life was easier, and when were they 10 years old (old enough to be sort of independent, still no responsibilities)? 20 years ago. Meanwhile the college kids see the nostalgia boom, and for them the fads of 20 years ago are what they remember their "cool" slightly older siblings being into, so if they can pretend to be nostalgic for it, they look cool.

Pfighting Polish: This just in: EVERY era had things to like and not like. And it will all depend on you and your personality. Deal.

Pretty much. Depends a lot on your age, too.

Wrong. GUTS, LOTHOT, Double Dare, etc. were all good. And Hey Arnold wasn't that bad either. It's actually a bit endearing to go back and watch episodes. Every time I watch the snow day episode I nostalgia hard about the days when snow was something awesome.

Rocco

Hey Dude
Pete & Pete
Ahhhh! Real Monsters

Loop those on a station and I'll watch it all day

And I'd just like to comment on this. The 90s(and very late 80s to a degree) was the golden era for 7yo-18yo television.

On top of what Nickelodeon had you also had all the great WB shows(Saturdays and afterschool, including Animated DC Universe and Steven Spielberg Presents animated shows) and great Disney shows, plus shows like Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World, The Wonder Years, and even stuff like My So Called Life.

bhcompy: great Disney shows

I'm consistently amazed this channel got ratings post-80s. I grew up during the 90s, and I can't think of a single show I watched on that channel. The appeal of that channel after the 90s is also lost on me.

I'm not necessarily talking about Disney Channel. Disney had a stable of shows in syndication starting in the late 80s.
DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, and Gargoyles(criminally good).. Goof Troop to a lesser extent.

Wake up, it's time for Sick Sad World

I wanted to do dirty, filthy things to Jane.

I have this theory that most people regard the decade they spent the majority of their teen years in as the best decade for...whatever. Music, movies, TV, pop culture in general. Me, I loved music in the 90s, the TV shows were amazing, the movies were also pretty awesome. My cow-orkers who're in their 40s think I'm crazy. To them, nothing can beat the 80s. While I agree with them on movies - let's face it, the 80s has an amazing stable of classic films - everything else about them I find just plain bad. Cars were boxy, architecture was vomitous, the music was either hair metal ladyboys wearing more makeup then their groupies or gay british robots with flock of seagulls hair playing key-tars, and the fashion, holy balls the fashion was terrible.
