Mmmm...hate is such a great family value to promote...

Not that this loon has a chance in Hells, but when folks cheer her on, this is the sort of thing that they like about her. It's shameful. It's Un-American. And if you support this tripe, then maybe you should STFU about "values"...

From Ron Paul on Leno last night: Michele Bachmann "doesn't like Muslims, she hates them, she wants to go get 'em".

Paul might be a neoconfederate nutbar, but I don't think he said this casually. It will be interesting to see her response. I expect it to be telling.

gilgigamesh: The one thing that Reagan and Bush and even GW understood, is that Islam in general aren't the enemy. Only about 40% of Islam resides in the Middle East. Of that 40%, only a tiny number are involved in Fundamentalism. Of that, only a tiny percentage are militant enough to take arms in terrorist cells.

The fights that we have in Afghanistan are more than religious. The fight in Iraq and looming in Iran are far more than religious based, and the populist idiots who conflate Islam with Fundamentalism only illustrate their lack of fitness to understand the foreign policy landscape, to try to appeal to domestic Christian Fundamentalists.

The push towards Fundamentalism is dangerous. Be they Islamic. Be they Christian. Be they Judaic. Not because of the religion, but the conflation of faith as patriotism. Of flag as totem.

We are passing very close to lending support in a wide base to those who lack understanding of the founding principles of the nation, all the while cheering her on. This support is dangerous, not just to the Republican party, and undermining that very Republicanism, but the very Republic itself. And good Republicans need to draw a line in the sand against this push.

FWIW I think they are. Romney will be the nominee, not Bachmann.

Not that I am a fan of Romney, but despite his recent rhetoric he is a moderate. Which means either the fringe is losing its grip, or losing interest.

I hope.

The problem with Romney is that he's an amiable kleptocrat, and only as "moderate" as the audience that he's pandering to...

Sounds a lot like what we have now.

Anyway its safe to say he wouldn't try to mandate that Muslims wear yellow crescent patches or gays wear pink triangles when they venture outside.

Bachmann? Not so sure.

"We are going to get this message across," he said. "Marriage is between one man and one woman. We are going to promote families."

So I assume that all the polygynous figures in the Bible are burning in Hell? Toast, Solomon!! Burn, Abraham!! Roast, David!!

"Hey kids! Carrots are full of healthy vitamins and improve your eyes!" is now socialism.

These people are cartoons. They have to be. Has anyone actually seen them in person?

I am starting to think there is some kind of Roger Rabbit - Toontown breaking into reality thing going on here.

Hey, if he had to marry a woman and deny his gayness then everyone else should too.
This is surreal. The first time I saw this clown on video I asked MrS who the big flamer was.
Nothing wrong with being gay at all but the hypocrasy is nauseating.
Dude, you're not an Empress and you're naked.

At some point, you have to actually have a policy to support, beyond "If'n their fer it, I'm agi'n it!"

We are reaching a point where the public policy that is being promoted has become mad caricature...

As First Lady, Marcus Bachmann's Number One Cause Will Be Hating Gays
Jon Ponder | Dec. 17, 2011

If his wife Michele is elected president next year and he becomes America's first male First Lady, Marcus "Jazzy Hands" Bachmann says he will not pursue a socialist cause like Michelle Obama's campaign to improve childhood nutrition. Instead, perhaps not surprisingly, his cause will be preventing equal marriage rights for gays.

Presidential candidate and former Senator Rick Santorum (R) was quick to respond in a statement to the press: "I wouldn't leave something this important to my spouse. Rather, if elected, I will be all over the gays, and get right to the bottom of hard issues like this. That's why I've formed a new initiative to protect marriage, called People of Universal Nuptial Defenders, and why I ask good Christian men everywhere to get behind me in a POUND town meeting."

why does a small government Republican want the government to get involved in people's personal lives? if you're small government, you CANNOT get the government involved in defining marriage. recognizing marriage, sure. as in 'yes, we the government recognize that larry and steve are a married couple'. But the government shouldn't be able to say larry and steven can't get married.

I don't give a damn about the morality discussion. I see this as a small government/states' rights issue. it is not the job of the federal government to tell two people they can't get married.

As long as it's for causing harm to anyone who isn't in their immediate social circle or promoting a radical social agenda, there is no government big-ass enough for the right.

I had an acquaintance in college who argued that all observant Muslims were, by definition, fundamentalists. She honestly believed that Islam per se was an existential threat to our way of life (bear in mind, this was in the early 1980's). I thought she was an utter loon. She's now a successful conservative author, well known in certain circles for her "biography" (drooling hagiography, more like) of Margaret Thatcher.

Given Bachmann's poll numbers (POLL, not POLE, so down, Marcus), I don't think Queenie's pet causes are going to matter much.

In other words, the White House bartender won't need to brush up on how to make Cosmos just yet.

This headline and article are disgusting. I fear for my country if people think this kind of vile attack is okay against a God-fearing man like Mr. Bachmann. The gay problem is this country is a serious one, they have been slowly stripping our public morals from every faucet of America. Marcus Bachmann will be a great leader against the gay tide. I belong to a group called Republicans, Independents, and Moderates against the Judgement Of Beastiality and Sodomy. Our goal is to rid this great land of people like there person who wrote this article. We will be petitioning Mr. Bachmann to lead our cause once his wife is thrust into office.

It's only Big Government when they disagree with it. If they agree with it, it's super America #1 patriotic.

True, but if such a yellow-crescent-mandating bill were to fall on his desk, I don't think he'd veto it if it included a nice, hefty tax cut for billionaires.

When Marcus inevitably cracks from the cognitive dissonance and comes out, it's going to be epic.

Koalaesq: When Marcus inevitably cracks from the cognitive dissonance and comes out, it's going to be epic.

He cracked a long time ago, but he's never coming out of the closet.

He hates -- absolutely hates -- gay people, for the unnatural way they make him feel inside. He wants to "discipline the young gay barbarians". He thinks about gay men constantly, and talks about them in every single interview he gives. He wants to show them a firm hand, make them submit to his desires, and all that jazzhands. And, he is going to feel that way until the day he dies.

And, even if one of those evil gay men manages to corrupt him, it won't be his fault. It will be because evil gay men are barbarians who need more discipline.

It's amazing that Michelle Obama takes on two entirely non-partisan issues (childhood obesity and supporting military families) and yet the right still find ways to attack her for it.

You didn't hear any of the Dems screaming that "our children have the right to be illiterate and how dare you tell me how to raise my child" when Laura Bush was First Lady. You know why? Because that would be retarded.

I loved all the petulant little tweets that right-wing morons like Michelle "Derp" Malkin post where they brag about how they're gonna go eat a hamburger, no matter what Michelle Obama says. It's enough for me to hope that Michelle Obama comes out and says that you should not take a massive dose of cyanide.

They just want to make government small enough that it can be effectively shoved into your nether regions.

Is there ever going to be a point when the flippant use of the "socialism" (or any variation thereof) is going diminish it's effectiveness to nil? There are only a finite number of things that the adjective "socialist" could attach to, and eventually the knee-jerk brigade is going to find something they love described as socialist.
