Good, I'd like to have a Navy protecting me that doesn't rely on friendly foreign suppliers to stay active.

You think that's bad, you should see what other expensive shiat they've been forcing the military to do.

Heh, true.

However, I wondered when the GPS was deployed if there were people biatching about how the military should rely on their compass and map skills than using satellites to tell them where they know they already are.

Meh, they need to experiment with it, I'm OK with this.

It would be cheaper if we started working on alternatives earlier than depending on terrorist juice.

Gotta start somewhere

Dear god that's a crappy course. Looks to be all par 3s and 4s with nary a dog leg, water or sand hazard in sight. Probably designed from the ground up so O-5s and up can circle jerk their way to a par score without knowing a divot from their own asshole, then congratulate each other at the end of how awesome they are at golf.

It's a perfect microcosm of today's armed forces...it's really quite beautiful, if you think of it.

Money is often spent for public policy reasons which do not appear to be efficient from a normal business economics standpoint (and are not corruption).

Totally. My hometown just built a softball field for aging white guys to sit around and swing a bat and pretend they're Jose Canseco. I bet they jerk each other off in the shower while talking about how great their stupid double play was. What douches. The field doesn't even have a jumbotron.

It only looks like a crappy course. It's in the middle of a live fire testing range. Ever lose two strokes to a cluster bomb?

No, not personally though I hear the air officers have a trick they keep on the down-low to pad their score...

Same goes for synthetic rubber in the 40's. (new window) Its a good move, over time it will be less costly and being less dependent on foreign sources is a good thing.

Well, the hole that's most northwest looks like a dogleg right par 5. And anybody who's prone to a wicked hook or slice from time to time is going to find themselves in a shiatload of sand.

I think that's actually a straight par 3 and straight part 4...can't easily tell with the resolution, though I'm judging my guess on those teeny-tiny little sand traps there at what looks like the dog leg. Now, the one to the easternmost looks like it might be a par 5 with a right dog leg, but on merit of the length and narrowness of the fairway considering it only has the sand trap next to the green for hazards.

Whoops, I meant northeast, not northwest. I was looking at the same hole you're talking about, but have a genetic condition which makes me mix up east and west after having at least 8 Fat Tires.

I doubt this is going to have much of an impact on the $2.5 billion per day the US spends on its military.

2011-12-17 01:04:26 AM
Was it a sole source contract or a competitive contract?

Did the government say, "to help bring down the learning curve, and increase demand for bio-fuels we will buy 450,000 gallons from the lowest/best bidder" or did the government say "we are sole sourcing 450,000 gallons from Solazyme"?

The contract is split between two firms. That's interesting but still doesn't say if it was competitively bid or not.
