I guess we should be prepared for the aftermath of a Cubs world series then.

Gizmag.com? Maybe it's a spelling issue, but I have a lot of my gizmags at home already. Not clicking on that link at work.

The geek techno revival of semi-forgotten Victorian techno fun continues to be pretty awesome.

That may sound sarcastic, but I'm serious.

3D goes back much further than the Victorians. I believe that Roman gladiatorial combats were even put on in 3D.

I have the viewmaster, and the 3-d cameras, but $22 is too pricey. I'll be making my own for the price of the film and processing.

Doesn't a 3DS take 3d pics?

An affordable means to make my own reels is something I've long been searching for. The mail-order places that offered it were always too expensive for casual experimentation (GAF probably too demanding on the copyrights).

When color laser printers came out, I figured I could use photoshop and laser-printable transparency film to make an entire reel or two on a sheet, but the resolution wasn't great. If I could find a source for $5 a reel, I would go nuts. There are tons of old viewmasters at flea markets and etc. for pennies, it would be fun to grab some and load them with custom reels for friends and family.

That characteristic "ca-CHUNK!" sound as you worked the lever... like Proust's buttered scone or whatever, it takes you back in time.

Funny, I almost bought a Viewmaster 35mm camera (new window) a few months back. Local shop had it, the books, and a few blank reels. To think, I could have paid him a little bit more than they charge for a single reel, soak a few rolls of film in some kitchen chemicals, and replace the film in a new reel. Ahh, the lengths hipsters will go to to avoid using popular technology.

Still eyeing the Kodak 35mm 3D and slide viewer. Full size slides instead of puny 1/4 frame viewmaster. And the slides he had in the viewer . . . damn lucky guy, whoever originally owned that kodak.
