If Jimi Hendrix could recommend him as a good player, I can go along with it.

I usually dislike the "this day in music so and so was born" headlines, but I enjoyed this one.

Beer drinkers and hell raisers. Let's all get a mexican blackbird and give her a pearl necklace.

These guys played my company holiday party last year. And suuuuuuucked.

Time to hang up the cheap sunglasses and fuzzy gittars.

ZZ Top played at our usually-lame county fair last year. It was over 100 degrees with the heat index, but I went anyway.

They. Rocked. My. Butt. Off.

So glad I had a chance to see them live, and I'm sad that they weren't in my small-market area in their prime (or mine).

Would go again in a heartbeat.

When the video started my first thought was, "who is that amish guy with guitar?". Being a youngin', I'm used to my ZZ Top in knit caps, sunglasses and grey beards

Well, of course the guy who saw ZZ Top in their element saw a better show than the guy who saw them at some lame-ass corporate party.

It's the difference between seeing George Carlin in concert. and George Carlin on the Tonight Show.

/when Carlin was alive, of course.

Carlin still performs? I would see that guy dead or alive.

Saw them in concert in some outdoor place maybe near Sonora, CA. Can't remember as it was the early 80's and drugs and alcohol were involved. It was a great concert. I stole a drumstick from the chick next to me and handed it to my friend on the other side. We also took over the men's bathrooms because the line for ours was too long. Good times, good times.

My dad saw them in concert about a month or two ago, said it was a blast

Watch them on the Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD and tell me again how they suck.

Geez, watching Billy Gibbons shamble onstage and start playing slide guitar like he was fused to the thing from birth ... it's just beautiful.

/GF sold him a guitar once
//Nice guy, too

Well, to be fair to ol' ZZ Top, they did have to follow George Thorogood at our "lame-ass" party. George and the Destroyers truly put on a hell of a show.

Enjoy the buffet and DJ at your totally kick-arse corporate party

Those who dislike ZZ Top know them for their "sound alike" work after the Eliminator album (it worked for AC/DC, no?). Their early catalog is shockingly strong - the band is so much more than the kids think they are.

Memphis, July 4, 1976. The Bicentenial. Can't remember name of stadium.
Fireworks shooting up from the field, into the stands.
Fireworks shooting from stands to the field.
A warzone.

Worlds luckiest bar quality band. imo

Got to talk to their guitar tech once. I asked what it was like to be with a bunch of hell raisers.

"Beer drinkers and hell raisers? Not anymore. Now, it's pot smokers and nap takers!"

Ah, rock and roll...

Just a couple months ago I was driving and saw a little Mercedes coupe with a ZZ Top license plate. I pulled up next to it and it was Frank Beard brownhousin a cigarette.

Maybe if the bar was heaven, and Jesus was there wearing a tuxedo t-shirt, cause you know, he'd want to be formal, but also ready to party.

/Lynyrd Skynyrd would also be there

Saw them on the Antenna tour, and it was my first rock concert, AWESOME! They had a huge stage set up and hundreds (seemed like it to me) of dancin' women.

Saw them many years later at Beale St. Music Festival and it was just them on stage. Just a bare stage. Blew me away.

Saw 'em a year ago, and it just wasn't as good. Still sounded awesome. I blame it on the fact we were in the VERY back row of the venue and it just didn't seem loud enough. I will see ZZ Top any time they come close. Even if it's the casino's.

One thing i know for sure,
I freaking LOVE his chunky fuzz guitar tone he gets out of his gibson. (1980 - 1985)

/saw "thank you / cheap sunglasses" on Old Grey Whistle Test today. it was great. Weird to see the guitarist and bassist sing instead of the drummer.

I know this sounds crazy but I've heard that Billy Gibbons does a lot of cooking of Mexican food. I heard he was on a TV show and he gave a recipe for "Renegade Guacamole." I'm a guac fiend and have been trying to find the recipe everywhere. I posted on the comments on his Wikipedia page, I contacted his fan club and his publicist. If anyone can help me find BG's Renegade Guac recipe, I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks.

Greenhousing is smoking weed with the windows up. Brownhousing is smoking a cigarette with the windows up. Maybe I made it up. Who knows?
