So, they get bad publicity because of a stolen car, and they proceed to fire Mrs. Claus, thinking that somehow this won't cause even worse publicity?

She should spin this as a "war on Christmas" and outrage the fundies.

She's a nice lady, I've spoken with her before. There's already a huge problem with theft and vandalism at the mall, not to mention the police are essentially useless when it comes down to following leads and making arrests. Just the other day they decided to review an emergency phone call on a murder and found out the wife confessed to everything on the line. It took them months to think about reviewing the call. MONTHS.

Ah, Las Cruces...the nation's source for odd news.

I used to live across the road from this mall and hang out there as a teenager (it was the 80's and hanging out at malls was what we did)

Allen262: Streisand effect?

The Streisand effect is a primarily online phenomenon in which an attempt to hide or remove a piece of information has the perverse effect of publicizing the information more widely. It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, whose attempt in 2003 to suppress photographs of her residence inadvertently generated further publicity.

I put a "?" as they did not try to hide or remove pieces of information. The just wanted it to stop spreding.

Probably parked in the south side of the mall outside the JCP. Same place my mom's car was broken into. That area is always really empty.

/always parks on the east side outside the Barnes & Nobles
//plenty of people walking around there

I believe this mall uses the same PR firm as Lowes.

"Head Up Your Associates, LLC"

Boo hiss on the 3.365% who voted "Yes, she stepped over the bounds in talking to the press."

Also, just why is it that the mall has the right to ban her from volunteering and she can't just reject the ban even though the general manager does not have a good reason to ban her to start with? "Their house their rules" doesn't fly with me. I want something more than that.

I'll just leave this here for the mall's management

there are a surprising number of PR people out there who are just.. just horrible at their jobs. i deal with them every day. long rambling emails about events no one could possibly care about, filled with misspellings and grammatical errors.. and followup phone calls about said emails..

people who do PR for malls are the worst though.

Instructing a volunteer not to return can be considered "firing". Quit playing with semantics
