What did he "retire" from?

so, with President Perry's part-time Texas-style Congress, will double-dipping be allowed?

These government welfare queens are killing state budgets. We need tougher restrictions.

FTA: Perry makes a $150,000 annual gross salary as Texas govenor. Now, thanks to his early retirement, Perry, 61, gets a monthly retirement annuity of $7,698 before taxes, or $6,588 net. That raises his gross annual salary to more than $240,000.

And farkin' Republicans are belly-aching military pensions are unsustainable, military personnel can keep hauling 60-pound backpacks into their 60s, rather than retire from active duty in their 40s and start a second career.

It's not his fault that he was born with a lack of oxygen.

#3: .... um I forget the third

... His monthly pension is over 5 times my monthly pay.

Granted, I'm a grad student, but, um, that's farked up...

And I thought this was the very thing Republicans hated.

He needs a pension with an annuity like that to attract the best and the brightest to the job.

"That's been in place for decades ... I don't find that to be out of the ordinary," Perry said "ERS called me and said, 'Listen you're eligible to access your retirement now with your military time and your time and service, and I think you would be rather foolish to not access what you've earned.'"

In other words, "I'm gaming the system, but it's legal. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Also, I'm a dick."

His excuse is the best part. "I can game the system and take it, so I should."

That's the same exact reasoning behind drug dealers who apply for food stamps and women who have more babies to up their checks from the government.

Once again, republicans rail against the very things they do.

Practice what you preach, or just don't preach. Its that simple.

Well, they have to preach something, right? "We like ice cream!" will be a battle call until Obama mutters something positive about ice cream. At that time they will drown their children and stab their neighbors just to quash the notion that they ever liked ice cream. In a certain light, the GOP are Nazi Hipsters.

The majority of the military isn't career people, it's volunteers. Even signing up for two tours you should be out before you're 40, 18+2*8 = 34.

and Perry wasn't career either. He flew C130s (delivering laundry and supplies, essentially) and then left when he was 27 to be a Cotton Farmer. Which is still a bit unexplained and random.

But if you're getting a pension as a result of being in a elective office, you shouldn't be allowed to retire without actually retiring. No retiring with a day left in a term and starting over in office. That should be a common sense idea that won't fly because it seals up a loophole.

Republican = Hypocrite

For the wealthy, they want tax cuts and pensions. For themselves, they want to remain well compensated for destroying our country. For the average worker, they want a polluted country, short life expectancies and for those who live that long, no Medicare and Social Security.

Mr. Perry, somewhere painful, barb wire.

2011-12-16 06:38:49 PM
If it weren't for his railing against others doing the same or social security benefits and so on, I wouldn't have a problem with this. The pension is there, if he's fulfilled the time required, then let him collect on it, whether he's retired or not.

Then again, he is a douche if he says others shouldn't have the same benefits.

Agreed.

I'd have no problem with this if it weren't for the blatant hypocrisy.

Republican politics is about making other people suffer, not making oneself suffer.

Well, the former usually do it because they can't afford to live and the latter are such a vanishing minority they don't actually exist, and neither has a national stage that represents them, so I'm not sure why you even bothered to bring them up aside from perhaps throwing a bit of BSABSVR out there.

When was hypocrisy ever a good thing?

And doesn't their savior (Jesus, not Reagan) say to not act like a hypocrite in their precious holy bible?

That isn't hypocrisy. Its "one rule for adults, one rule for children" which makes sense. Unless, you know, you think its hypocrisy that we don't give 4 year-olds a drivers license.

It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about a pension. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise governor, and we're talking about a pension. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about a pension, not a salary, not a salary, not a salary, but we're talking about a pension. Not the salary that I go out there and die for and make every speech like it's my last but we're talking about a pension man. How silly is that?
