/how the hell can anybody sit through watching a two and a half minute video that basically summarizes everything in the first ten seconds. "It swings. And it spins. Slowly."

Yea fail. I was expecting a 1st person POV, but instead got 2.5 minutes of swinging.

Also:

diatom.tv

It'll make a great zombie killing machine.

Actually, the feature of this ride is the covering of vomit you get.

"Daddy, can I ride the vomit machine again?"

Looks like I picked the wrong day to stuff myself full of the complimentary holiday work lunch. Ulp.

They have the exact same thing at Cedar Point. It's not nearly as vomit inducing as you might expect. You kinda just go in a figure 8 (so it feels like anyways). It's really freaky when you happen to be at the bottom of the wheel on the the apex of the swing. Fun ride!

2011-12-16 05:12:44 PM
Looks kinda meh, but maybe the silly thing does a loop or two after the 1:30 mark in the video? Cause that's how much of that video I could stand...

2011-12-16 05:13:55 PM
Doesn't every amusement park have one of these?

2011-12-16 05:14:41 PM
rode one at King's Island in Cincy. Gotta love that feeling of "OMG I'M GOING TO FALL OUT OF THIS" when you are above 90 degrees and facing the ground.

2011-12-16 05:16:03 PM
Kenny is a yellow up arrow? wow...that'll bring'em in

2011-12-16 05:20:07 PM
As someone who used to go to Kennywood for school picnics, I'm getting a kick....

I play a lot of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

From a more detailed article: The ride is replacing the Pitfall, a 251-foot towering cylinder that dropped seated riders to the ground in a free fall.

Really? I take it there weren't many repeat riders on that one.

2011-12-16 05:35:53 PM
Kennywood? That's not like Dollywood but a Kenny Rogers theme park is it? Please God. Please tell me it's not so.

[checks the internets]

Whew. There is still a small shred of hope for this country.

I nearly hurled just watching that ride from the ground. No way I was going to go on it.

The fast paced matrix soundtrack in the background really doesn't give it the energetic boost this video needs.

I'm sure it's fun on the ride but really the only thing I was thinking after understanding exactly what was going on about 30 seconds in was how horrible it would be if the top joint connecting the swing from the base snapped during and upswing. Would the rotation of the seating wheel be enough that when the rod and wheel hit the ground the people on the bottom side would be crushed immediately, and the the other people would be crushed one by one as the wheel rolled on the ground like when you drop a screw on the ground and the screw rolls along the edge of the head? Maybe it would just chop them all off at the knee.

Discuss.

You, apparently, have never had the good fortune of being cornered in a conversation with a roller coaster enthusiast. Some of those people....they're fanatical about this stuff.

The music is to mute the bloody screams of the riders that can be heard from miles away.

Back when I was a child we would just stand up, put our arms out, and turn ourselves around fast. It didn't require the cost of a part admission, and we got to puke from the vertigo for free.

2011-12-16 07:04:20 PM
Why didn't they call it "The Sit and Spin"? It would be more honest and they'd prolly get more riders...at least, first-time riders.

A more likely scenario is that the emergency hydraulic braking activates during the upswing, causing the arm to abruptly stop and the ride to sway sickeningly as the energy is dispersed (within safety margins.)

The result is ΔV/ΔT=$

While the Zamperla model swing is AFAIK bigger than both the Huss and Mondial versions, it's still not a decent replacement for Pittfall, IMO. The park already has a fairly large swinging type ride with its S&S Screamin' Swing and is now lacking a drop tower. That, and Pittfall was a decent drop tower too.

Well...at least Phantom's Revenge and Sky Rocket are still pretty damn good.

The Sky Rocket rules. I have a bad back, and that thing is still *so* smooth, It doesn't bother

Why is it a single armature without a counterbalance opposite the fulcrum? It would take a lot less horsepower to swing it around if they only had the delta of weight of the riders.

The rotating Fireball spinners are going everywhere and the
Intamin drop towers are old hat. How many type 1 intamin FreeFalls will you find at a park these days?

if they wanted to go ape, they should have gotten a Sicko model instead. Double the nausea value....

The test version had a counterbalance in the air. It kept tripping birds. Nobody wants clumsy, inattentive birds spilled all over the place.
