More likely because it was unnecessary or dangerous. Turns out there is more than a "I totally want one" requirement to getting surgery done and it includes a doctor agreeing with you.

I think it's a well-known fact that any threat made against the president is a crime, no matter what the circumstance. Plus he did threaten an entire hospital full of people. Your actions have consequences.

Well if he's in prison he won't have the opportunity to actually act out any of these threats.

/sometimes prison is to protect us from them rather than to merely give them a chance to get their life sorted and rejoin society.

*checks profile*.... you're in New Zealand.... You must not understand the tribalism of American politics. Even though this man is probably in a highly stressful situation, his threats clearly demostrate that he is a right-winger, and his actions are therefore inexcusable to left-wingers. It's just an us vs. them scenario. Don't try and apply logic here.

You may be right in this case (there's no info one way or the other), but my experience has been that even necessary, life-saving surgeries can be "too dangerous" for some surgeons to agree to. My mother had to search out of state for someone who was willing to remove the brain tumor that was killing her. Most surgeons said the chance of survival was too slim and the chances were too high that she would be blinded or otherwise permanently brain damaged and didn't even want to try... possibly too afraid of a lawsuit? She finally found a willing surgeon and beat the odds by surviving with her life and vision intact (unfortunately, she did lose her sense of smell and has some short-term memory impairment, but that just means she gets to watch movies several times as if they were brand new!).
