Fifty cents a pound for car batteries around here, although I'd imagine showing up with that amount might raise an eyebrow, if nothing else.

FTA: "We're gonna lost about $4,000"

that's unpossible!!!!!

FTA: However, he says the thieves actually did them a favor. "They actually didn't cut the cables which would have cost us more money. They actually unbolted every single one of the batteries," says Pius.

Bet they don't make that mistake again. Thanks for the tip, Pius.

We sell batteries and make cables where I work, so I am getting a kick(back) out of this.

We have never seen this volume of theft before. They are also stealing catalytic coverters from many vehicles.

You should take the copper wire too.

Note the grammar fail by school official in the quote "We're gonna lost about $4,000. We're gonna have to replace these. For a district as financially strapped as Van Dyke is, this just takes one more step back,"

+5 coolness points awarded

I really hope that's a typo and not a direct quote from a school official.

Kar98: Fifty cents a pound for car batteries around here, although I'd imagine showing up with that amount might raise an eyebrow, if nothing else.

50 cents a pound, is that the dry weight or wet weight, if it is dry weight bus batteries probably weigh about 20 pounds, so 10 bucks a battery X 42 batteries (3 per bus 14 buses) $420 bucks. Better payout than copper theft.

Scrap price for batteries is 34 cents a pound, however a scrap yard will give a private seller about 15 cents per pound.
That works out to about $500 dollars worth of batteries as a guesstimate.
The last time I sold some of my old batteries to a scrap yard I had to give them a copy of my drivers license and a electronic thumb print to keep on file before they would cut the check.

Hmm. A lot of batteries, and parts for clean emissions from internal combustion vehicles...

Oh, no! They're building THE WORLD'S BIGGEST HYBRID CAR!

It's the take out of the car, put it on the scales, and get $7.50 for a battery from a VW Golf, for instance. So I'd say wet weight, at the junkyard just outside the city limits.
I'm sure batteries from a bus weigh a bit more.

A bus battery probably weighs between 40-60 pounds think trolling motor battery. So yeah my guess was probably off.

Maybe the thieves are building a railgun. That would be sweet.

It's probably just some idiots looking for quick cash though.

Warren school official? Probably a direct quote.

There are about only two good public school districts in the metro Detroit area - this is not one of them.

This happened to my school way back in the late 70's in rural missouri. Couple kids stole the batteries out of all 18 buses the school district had. They found them a couple weeks later all stacked up behind a kids garage. Seems he and his friend did a bit too much bragging.

"Anu has been inspired by the courage and strength that individuals have shown throughout her career. One story in particular that impacted her greatly was of a man who had been severely injured in a sex accident while bound to a wheel chair. He was unable to have sex for many months, but in spite of this, his Dominatrix kept his position open and his ball gag ready for his return. Anu had the privilege of reporting on the joyous event of his return to submission after his grueling recovery. "It was such a good feeling to be able to share in this man's punishment and to celebrate his pain."

Sorry couldn't help myself.

Once arrested, they'll be charged with attempted battery and resisting. The case will be heard at the 4th Circuit Court.

Farmington (minus Harrison High School area), Novi, Northville, Plymouth-Canton, West Bloomfield... Yeah, Wayne County sucks, but Oakland County isn't bad. It isn't great, and there's quite a bit of ups and downs (Southfield and Warren just to name two), but it's not bad.

electric car, or off-grid electric system? I'd look to see who cancels their electric service in the next few months (or who's usage drops to almost nothing.

love this part: "One story in particular that impacted her greatly was of a man who had been severely injured in an accident and bound to a wheel chair." i can picture him wrapped in gauze and struggling to free himself.

the writing for the article and the bio were pretty damned bad.

Obviously not professional thieves. Expect them to caught soon, made to clean erasers.

I take it they don't lock up their buses?

You should. Other than finding stuff stolen you also end up with bums sleeping in them.

Not terribly awesome to find at 0 'dark thirty in the morning IMHO.

#OWS has given all bums a promotion, they are now economic refugees.
