The depth of the various scandals
That Michigan deftly mishandles
Is varied and deep.
So what if some creep
Is selling a few Roman Candles?

These Limericks are quite stale
Like week-old bread on sale
Give it a rest
That would be best
Or we'll beat you 'til you wail.

There once was a man from Lansing
Who decided to pull out his man thing
They threw him in jail
without any bail
And now like a canary he sings!

Now, from Pinnebog to Kalamazoo to Menominee, they shall have their fireworks.

The ban was indeed worthless.

They should just nuke Detroit

They should start bidding and the highest bid gets to press the button

Seems like a good idea. When I lived in Detroit, people would fire off guns to celebrate New Years. Invariably, some idiots would not point the guns up before firing and people died every year. Only a small percentage when you consider how many people were shot on purpose every year.

Online I met Jenny the Yooper,
She tweeted 'I think sex is super!'
I asked for a pic,
I could tell she was sick...
She had Sharpies all stuck in her pooper.

Yeah, I'll only be happy when I can light my fireworks with the end of my lit joint.

I like the article makes this out to be some triumph over the evils of government. I mean it's relatively low impact ruling either way.

The engineer in me wants to see the number of fireworks related injuries per capita and see if the trend goes up in the following years. The rest of me just wants to buy some m-80's and see if my throwing hand is faster than my lighting hand.

I grew up in ann arbor michigan so it was a yearly tradition to pool our money up take a drive down to ohio and buy enough fireworks to last us at least a few hours.

There are a lot of struggling 3rd world economies in the world who support themselves by selling explosives, Michigan is just the next one to do so

One of the secretaries at my dad's work got hit by a round from one of those dumbfarks a couple years ago (not sure if this was in Detroit proper or one of the suburbs). She and her husband were having a New Years Eve party and one of his friends brought his 12 gauge over to ring in the new year. So the husband and his friend go out into the backyard to fire off a few celebratory gun shots. Well the gun went off accidentally (I can't remember if the friend dropped it or accidentally pressed the trigger), it was loaded with a deer slug. The slug went through the (closed) backdoor, into the kitchen (where she was standing), and through this woman's leg. By the grace of God the slug passed cleanly through without hitting anything too important. So not only was she lucky enough not to bleed to death but she didn't suffer much (if any) permanent damage (no limp and no cane the last time I saw her). She divorced the husband about a year and a half after this happened.

A few of the families in our neighborhood (SW MI) routinely make a trip to IN and OH and put on regular shows during the entire week of the 4th. The only time it makes me nervous is when there is a drought and the vegetation is bone dry. Other than that, it's a nice neighborhood celebration. All the neighbors that participate in the fireworks have figured out long ago that you can stop complaints by busybody neighbors if you just invite them over and have beer. If you invite a sheriff's deputy or two, nobody is going to get arrested. One of the thrills was the fact that the law was being circumvented. So, aside from the fact that the fireworks will now be available locally, I'm wondering if there will be as much incentive when it's legal.

Good question. I think places like State Line Fireworks where I would go will lower there prices to compete. Just glad I don't have to drive an hour to buy anymore!

Just be prepared for the dip. in CA the legalization of weed has dropped the price 25-50% depending on how name brand the strain and quality. The designer stuff being the 25% drop and the no name costing as much as 50% of what it did in 2010.

We saw a few commercial operations replace lots of "mom and pop" operations. With the margins becoming so thin that it is not totally viable to grow less than 30-50 plants (depending on county). There are a lot of ops out there who are getting creative just to "keep the lights on (pun intended)!"

Snyder raised taxes on about 99% of Michigan residence to pay for tax cuts that go to about 1%. So we got that going for us.

2011-12-16 07:23:57 PM
Last year the state fire marshall and president of the FOP came out asking for the ban on use here in Ohio to be lifted because their resources were too thin to waste time enforcing this bullshiat law.

Speaking as a Michigander who hosts a big Fourth of July party every year, I really couldn't be happier. My neighborhood pretty much ignores all the fireworks laws anyway, but this ought to prompt some real fun shows this year. Better keep the hoses ready.

An ophthalmologist in my hometown goes to Ohio every year before the 4th and drops thousands of dollars on the good stuff. He's done this for at least 20 years. The municipal fireworks are shot off over Lake Huron and his house is on Lake Huron next to a huge park, right smack in the middle of the prime fireworks-viewing area. It's known by everybody in town that Doctor C puts on the pre-fireworks fireworks show. Dude loves to blow shiat up and the cops know and don't care.

My uncle does that in Warren. or at least used to.

Cop stopped by last time because a douchebag neighbor actually called... stopped by to say good show and then left. Good times.
