I had a really bad sneezing fit while driving once. It was pretty terrifying, actually.

What the hell are the going to charge the driver with?

Why are charges pending?

It sounds like an accident.

Unsafe driving, probably. Frankly, I have very little sympathies for truck drivers. Not after one hit me with a semi.

What on earth does Scottie Pippen have to do with this story?

So you never buy anything from the store? If you do, you should have some sympathy for them, they deliver everything you buy. Don't let one person's mistake/accident color your perception of a whole industry.

Besides, how do you know that the truck driver wasn't just trying to cover his ass and blame it on a sneezing fit? The guy who hit me told the officer "OMG, he came out of nowhere and cut me off and made me hit him!" The guy was tailgating me while I was stuck behind traffic and he was telling big whoppers to save his ass.

This isn't really much of anything at all. In fact, it's just there, in the headline. Truck driver sneezes. I have sneezed before.

We had a very interesting call yesterday. A truck driver on I-90 swallowed his coffee wrong, went into a coughing fit, and briefly passed out. In the few seconds he was out, he veered through the median, across the two opposing lanes of traffic, went between the opposing on-ramp and the overpass, straight up the incredibly steep bank of the overpass, launched over the overpass (missing a passing car by inches) and went down the other side, went up the bank and crossed over the opposing off-ramp, down the other side into the ditch, up the other side of the ditch and smashed through a large wooden storage shed. He came to just as he was going through the building and managed to get the truck stopped about 50 feet from the front door of a motel.

If I hadn't seen the tracks and resulting damage with my own eyes, I would never have believed that a semi could possibly have taken that route without rolling or otherwise spectacularly crashing. The driver was a little banged-up, but we didn't even take him to the hospital. Nobody was seriously injured. If I were a more religious man, I would call it a miracle. The truck driver certainly seemed to believe that it was.

FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes told the Orlando Sentinel that charges are pending against the driver, 43-year-old Joseph Williams of Jacksonville.

Why and what for?

A truck driver in Newfoundland did this last week, sneezed while going through a sharp curve and totalled the truck. Put himself in hospital. Scary.

Failure to maintain control. It's the catch-all they use, because they gotta charge you with something, right? In VA is a farking class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to $2500 fine and 12 months in jail.

CSB1:
After a very heavy rainfall I was making a right turn, on a back country road. What I thought was water covered road, was a huge fricking ditch which I started to fall in to. Water splashed all over the windshield, so I couldn't see, and my van was starting to tilt, so I brought the wheel left, and tried to pull straight out, which ended with me paralell across the road. Just so happened someone was coming up to that stop sign, and I hit his bumper.

So the state trooper shows up (Seriously, fark the VA troopers), and tosses me a failure to maintain control ticket, and tells me I have to go to court in 3 days. (wow, that's pretty quick, I thought). I get there and they tell is us it's arraignment, and asked who needed a lawyer. I asked why I would need a lawyer for a simple non-injury traffic accident, and they tell me I'm looking at a year in jail. WTF? I ask to speak to the judge, explain the situtation, and that my insurance was covering the accident, and having some common sense, the judge dropped the case.

CSB2:
I was in traffic court (for another seperate speeding charge :) and the guy in front of me was there for having an accident. The guy was going down a 55mph area of US 460, and a dog ran out into the road. The guy swerved to miss the dog, lost control, and landed in a ditch. Hurt himself, totaled his car, but cause no damage to anyone else or any property. The trooper agreed with the statement so far, and then the judge asked what happened next:
Trooper:Well, the ambulance came and extracted him from the car, and loaded him on a gurney.
Judge:Then what
Trooper:As they were loading him into the ambulance, I had him sign the ticket, and gave him a copy.

What an asshole. There was no reason to levy a charge on someone as they are being loading into a farking ambulance. Must less give him a ticket when he didn't cause any damage. But the state troopers here love that shiat. Another person get a failure to maintain control because her brakes failed on a mountian, and she had to put her self into the rock to stop.

I can see giving a ticket to someone involved in a multicar accident to establish fault for legal and insurance purposes, but a ticket that carries the same penalty as a DUI for an accident? WTF?

/Fark the VA state troopers....this can not be said enough.

MythDragon

I think Virginia state police have a policy that somebody has to be ticketed following an accident with police response, and the usual ticket is a misdemeanor.

In Massachusetts it's hard to get a ticket following an accident without serious injury or intoxication.

That happens all the time to me....people pull out in front of or pass me so they can make their left turn 5 seconds sooner. Then they get pissed off because I almost hit them and lay on the air horn and flip them off...or my favorite is when the sign says left lane ends and you can actually see them speed up to get in front of you and then slam on the brakes so they don't rear end the other cars stopped in the construction zone.

Yeah, except I was in the right lane 10 miles prior to being hit. The guy was just tailgating me and covering his ass.

I was wondering the same thing. It's unlikely that the sneezing attack was his fault.
