Nice job submitter.

Is it just me or does the design of the can make this look unappetizing as hell? A poorly drawn cartoon reindeer that looks like it's shiatting out a pile of raw steaks. And what's with the "edible" disclaimer? As opposed to a non-food use of paté?

Don't like reading much, do we?

Reading? Why would I read the article when it's so much more fun to make up my own facts to suit my twisted reality?

What's with the cobra, scorpion and other pictures on the can? Are those by-products?

2011-12-16 08:59:33 AM
That gives "Donner Party" a whole new meaning.

I was quickly distracted by this can from the story in the sidebar:

/probably the most SFW picture from that story

There's a Photoshop contest going live Saturday afternoon featuring the War on Christmas (new window).

The can looks like something sold in Ikea.

Instead of just looking at the pictures, perhaps you could read those little squiggly things on the page as well. If you did, you'd have learned that 'edible' is the brand name, not a disclaimer, and you wouldn't look like such a dumbass.

Filth Paste: What's with the cobra, scorpion and other pictures on the can? Are those by-products?

I believe that's the "allergy info", and that it means that the reindeer was canned in a factory which also cans cobras and scorpions.

Pfft. You guys expect me to read the article? What do you think this is? Slashdot?

/actually was reading it but stopped after I got to the image

The only thing shocking about this is the price. A quick online search reveals a slightly larger tin for less than a fiver (new window), albeit without the cheeky packaging. Because it's perfectly normal Finnish food.

So it's a bit silly, the relative of Rudolph is minorly amusing, but other than that I'm not sure what the big deal is supposed to be?

Oh...to freak out oversensitive fundies.

Well...carry on then.

It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas

2011-12-16 11:02:08 AM
I would certainly give this a taste. Animal flesh is animal flesh and its what I am evolved to consume.

I met a Finnish person with a can of reindeer meet and some crackers. We played board games and ate reindeer. It was delicious.

Activists Vegetarians International Voice for Animals today urged Harvey Nichols to ban the product.

In a letter to the store, they wrote: 'I understand that the reindeer meat you sell claims to be from farmed animals, this... raises concerns - as farming methods are likely to cause huge amounts of stress to animals used to relatively free range over wide areas.'

I only eat free range reindeer pate. It's more ethical, you know.

I'd prefer reindeer steaks rather than processed meat but would be willing to settle in a pinch

As a former Alaskan, I've got to say that reindeer meat is awesome! Truly awe inspiring as a sausage. It goes well in stews, pizza, burger, whatever. You will get fat and happy off the stuff. oh, and poor. It isn't cheap, and we even have (had?) farms up north. Some friends with bucks went up and spent the money to hunt one. Good stuff.

As for the article, I used to tell the other kids at the table that we were eating little bo peep's lost sheep when we had leg of lamb for holiday dinner.

If you gather up 10 cans of this stuff, Crazy Earl will trade you something good for them.

Damn straight. I just had me some reindeer sausage on a pizza yesterday. Got the urge after another reindeer story a couple days ago.

Yeah! Had it been close family members I might be upset, but who really cares about distant relatives.
