and the governor doesn't want to pay his campaign people to review the signatures he's suing to make the GAO do it.
He doesn't have to challenge the signatures. That's his choice. Why should the taxpayer pay for that? he should just concede that enough people have signed and get on with the recall campaign. Save his money to hire fake Dems to run to split the vote.

Aside from the uproar in Madison, Walker has been wounded by sluggish economic growth, Franklin said. Walker's chief campaign pledge was to rejuvenate the state's ailing economy. After steady job growth in the first half of 2011, growth has been small or nonexistent in the public and private sectors, Franklin said.

So much for all those great things Walker's policies were going to usher in, eh?

I hope they manage to recall this mean-spirited asshole.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving assshole. Well, except for most of the other Teapublican governors.

Good. F*cking prick.
I was ready to just attribute the problem to ideological differences until Walker pushed for gays to not be able to visit their partners as "family" in hospitals.

That's just so beyond cruel it made my jaw drop. That's pure gay hatred right there.

Sure. I'm happy this prick is going to be recalled. I'm a little disappointed that he's not going out like Mussolini.

This I hadn't heard about. Jeez, is there any redeeming quality to this guy? I hope the actual recall vote passes. Any Wisconsinites or close watchers care to tell us what they predict will happen?

And didn't Obama already pass a federal mandate saying they could?

he might still be converting oxygen into carbon dioxide so plants have something to breathe.

Not sure about that though.

Is there any way he could make a recall illegal? Seems like something he'd do.

sweetmelissa31: Is there any way he could make a recall illegal? Seems like something he'd do.

He is already suing against the recall as a violation of his 14th Amendment right to equal access under the law, in a very convoluted sort of challenge that his own offices would be in violation of in their quest to get rid of Congresscritters.

I'd say that he is pretty much assured that he's going to be turned out, and that he's going to do his level best to hide as much cash and as many favors as possible before he gets tossed out.

I could be wrong, but I think they'd need to amend the state constitution to change their recall process.

We need to recall quite a few politicians.....like all of them.

2011-12-16 10:08:03 AM
Been watching all of this from next door and the last year has been very surreal. Sure, WI is full of beer-chugging cheese-heads, but I'd always categorized them as "well-meaning red necks" - not the vile, spiteful kind exhibited by Walker. The majority of my friends from WI are also teachers, so it has been hard watching them go through this.

How is one supposed to have a rational conversation about the policies of someone as fascist as Walker?

Careful. We run the risk of upsetting Netizencain's pursuit for a rational political discussion on Fark. He may even go so far as to call you a poopy-head.

I shall weep for you, my friend, if you upset him.

Well now, let's be rational and polite about this. Is it always good to be cancer free? What is life anyway, but some meaningless struggle in pursuit of nothing in particular that goes on and on until you become old and incoherent. Cancer can put a stop to the boredom of every day existence.

As much as I would love to see him punted out of his Governorship, polls don't show this as a given. There's a pretty strong chance that he'll retain his office, but the recall effort and subsequent election would put a pretty big drain on his campaign money and would likely significantly weaken his chances at re-election later.

It's reassuring when we manage to kick them out.

I gathered from the article that he wants "illegible" signatures to be disallowed in the petition process. That surprises me. Most signatures I see are pretty illegible. Mine is, anyway.

Muslim Brotherhood will take over Wisconsin.

Well, after getting absolute power to do anything they wanted, the Republicans spent virtually ALL of their time on consolidating their power and social legislation such as making sure that kids can't get sex education in schools and 6 million/year on voter ID, even at their "jobs conference". There has been no time spent on creating jobs; every time they get together they are off the tracks again on more stupid legislation to tell people how they should act and think at taxpayer expense. Walker has spent over half of his time as Governor being out of the state at political fundraisers raising cash for his future political career as VP. I'm not sure what they thought would happen here but there was absolutely no attempt to improve the local economy. Meanwhile, all the states around Wisconsin are adding jobs.

sammyk: Anyone know when a recal election would be held if they do have one?

It looks like the recall effort got started around March or so, elections were held in July and August. The recall on Walker had to wait until November to start, which puts a date on his recall to around April or so.

I'm pro-life. Cancerous cells are living things. Who are you to play god and end that precious life?

Don't forget CCW and rolling back Doyle's (slightly misguided) auto insurance limits! Did he think he bought some points back by calling for the DNR from the guy in lake Geneva who's keeping a doe in his barn?

The Republicans are pouring their money here too. Wisconsin's become essentially a proxy war for the rest of the country.

How does the recall process work in WI? When Gray Davis was recalled in CA, the voting process was actually pretty streamlined (by CA standards.. our system is a giant clusterfark).

The first question on the ballot was more or less "Recall Gov. Davis, yes or no" and then the second question was "Should the Gov. be recalled, who do you want to cast your vote for".

Of course, most of us voted for Arnie. Looking back, the recall probably wasn't the wisest idea. Davis was a bit of a dolt, but he is probably light years ahead of Walker.

It'll be close, but Waukesha county will "find" enough votes to win it, with open ballot bags (again) and the DA won't investigate (again).

Cletus C.: Bleed the union coffers dry with this, then fail on the recall effort. Cool.

How so? There's still about a month left of signature gathering (call it 2.5 weeks if everything shuts down for Xmas/New Years). They'll get more than enough signatures by then. And if they hit their goal for total signatures even if 1 out of every 3 signatures is successfully challenged the recall effort still succeeds. It sounds like there's a good chance he'll have to fire up his campaign machine.

Cletus C.: Bleed the union coffers dry with this, then fail on the recall effort. Cool.

Walker's on record as saying he expects them to get all the signatures, they're goal is to actually get 133% of the requirement. The real issue is there aren't any obvious Democrats to knock off Walker. One isn't too well known outside the strength of a Madison television signal (Erpenbach) and another who mentioned it (Cullen) hasn't been relevant since the Clinton administration. Unless they send a parade down Wisconsin Ave. to get Feingold out of Marquette, it's an uphill climb.

Oh, I can tell you what's going to happen. Walker's people will fight as dirty as possible, and will do whatever illegal things they think they can get away with.
