BUT HOW WILL BBC AAMERICA EXPLAIN THE SHOW'S PREMISE TO US STUPID YANKEES EVERY WEEK???

2011-12-16 07:42:00 AM
I liked the Amy Pond character in the beginning but the story line seemed to evolve away from the Doctor and center around Amy. While she was never as annoying as Rose (a statistical impossibility), she was becoming a close runner-up.

I will, however, miss Rory. Especially his gladiator costume.

2011-12-16 07:56:52 AM
I'll miss Amy. But you know not like a huge shock or anything, the Doctor does tend to go through Companions.

2011-12-16 07:59:07 AM
It was inevitable and they've had an excellent run. I only hope that the new companion is as feisty, sexy and resourceful as Amy Pond-Williams.

River Song?

2011-12-16 08:08:44 AM
I thought this had been common knowledge since Let's Kill Hitler aired?

/Still catching up on Who, so not sure about Amy & Rory yet.
//On Season 5, just finished 'Amy's Choice'
///Already spoiled for the whole River plot (pesky 'net...)

Wrapping up a a storyline? Companions leaving? Please. After losing Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney this year, this is benign.

Oh, someone cue the "DOCTOR!" cartoon with the female Comanions from Susan Foreman to Rose Tyler. Love it.

Amy's choice. Possibly my favorite episode of them all.

Spoon over Marin: River Song?

I sincerely hope so.

"The final days of the Ponds are coming," Moffat said.

Well that's certainly never a good sign for a character.

/I'm going to miss Rory

Wait... they aren't getting rid of Constable Reginald Wigglesworth, are they?

Their story arc has pretty well played out. As much as I like their characters, another season with them would feel tacked on to me. It's hard to justify them continuing to travel with the Doctor after the Girl Who Waited and the episode after that (sorry I'm a failed geek who can't remember the title).

2011-12-16 08:20:01 AM
It had to happen. It's weird for American viewers who are used to the same cast for a decade.

Amy stories got boring. Rory stories are far more better and stuff.

2011-12-16 08:20:56 AM
I've always disliked Rory, but I love Amy. She's a great companion. Plus she's hella sexy, which never hurts.

I knew the time would come eventually that she'd be replaced, but I was hoping to keep her around as long as possible.

2011-12-16 08:21:13 AM
Every time I think it can't be that simple, Moffat surprises me by doing the obvious thing.

2011-12-16 08:21:52 AM
When do we get a new inspector space time? Matt Smith has the emotional range of a 6 year old it is amusing at first but gets tiring after 5 episodes. Both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston were much better.

2011-12-16 08:24:35 AM
It's about time. The whole Amy thing got very tiring. I had hopes that River Song would be the new companion but they went and screwed that story up as well. Before she became Amy's child she would have been a great Romana-esque companion. Now it would just be awkward.

2011-12-16 08:33:41 AM
I kinda got the impression with the last shows of the last series that the the Doctor had set them down and was moving on, and really there is not much more you could do with those two characters dramatically beyond regurgitating more hell on them, again.

But I will miss Rory, the Beta who found his Alpha, King of Awesome.

But after the two series of intertwined plot arcs, which was impressive, it might be nice to have a series of one shot stories.

2011-12-16 08:34:11 AM
Good. It's time for Amy and Rory to leave. I want to see Matt Smith's Doctor interact with some one else for a change.

/would love to see Captain Jack Harkness in the Tardis again.

2011-12-16 08:37:32 AM
Can't say I'm surprised. Honestly they should have finished their story line and wrote them out this last season. I liked both Amy and Rory until the show started to become more about them than adventures with the Doctor. There's really not too much more to be done with them now. They had their baby, and she's all grown up and safe and have a home and life just waiting for them back on Earth now.

And as much as I enjoy River Song as a character and watching Alex Kingston (who's much sexier and hotter than Amy any day), it's time to end her story too before she takes over the show. I wouldn't mind the occasional episode where she shows up and they have an adventure, but they can't make the show about her.

Heartbreaking? Hasn't Rory suffered enough to get a heartwarming instead??

I'll miss them both, but most of all I'll miss all of the Farkers' rabid frothing at the mouth over the very existence of an opening sequence that they don't even watch.

I agree with others. Liked them as companions - especially having multiple companions in the Tardis again - but their story has gone as far as it needs to. New companions are always fun and refreshing.

Eccleston didn't stick around enough and he was hampered by low budgets. Tennant's Jesus thing got tired after two series.

Matt Smith simply does -old- better.

I'll bet you dollars to gold that their story ends with either Amy dying and Rory just leaving the TARDIS forever, his heart in ruins, blaming the Doctor for ruining his life and tearing down his world around him, or Rory dying and Amy being abandoned on Earth by the Doctor and just fading away as she mourns what was.

It could go either way, but I really hope for killing Amy and just having Rory furious with the Doctor (much as he was in 'The Girl who Waited'), and leaving the TARDIS. I would actually see that as a good conclusion to their story. There's no way that the both of them are simply going to stop traveling in the TARDIS and go about living normal, everyday lives unless something absolutely traumatic happens and tears their lives apart.

Martha Jones: The Mitt Romney of Doctor Who companions?

Carth: Both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston were much better.

Bull. Tennant was just hideous when trying to convey a sense of menace. He flat out COULD NOT DO IT. I remember a few times he was supposed to make himself all scary and I actually LOLed when he gave it the old college try. Eccleston was much better but suffered from a number of lame plots. Matt Smith is pretty good at what he does, has had some great actors with a lot of chemistry with him to work with, and has benefited from a lot of his run having the best writing its had for the modern era.

Tennant mainly only comes up as being good because so many girls thought he was really handsome. He played a few great bits like Midnight, but I've never seen him do it better than Smith.

Gotta disagree with you there. Martha is hotter, and as far as I'm concerned is the hottest (looks wise) of the companions, new and old. I'd go with River or Peri as the sexiest over all though.

I wonder what exactly is meant by their "end," though. I have the feeling it is going to be kind of like Rose, living, but unreachable. Perhaps they will get turned into energy or something like that. Anyhoo, it sucks to see Rory go. Amy is okay. And yes, they should have Captain Jack re-join for a while. They need to go back to slightly more exotic companions. Too many of the recent companions have been too much ... like us.

Captain Jack, who is 51st century, could really shake things up.

/for some reason my favorite CJ moment is when he shuffles Rose and Donna away from the regenerating 10th. He simply calls out, "Good luck, Doctor!" It was a good reminder that he knows a lot more in a been there, done that way than many other companions

If God, Stephen Moffat, and the FSM are willing, if Karen Gillan reaches her 40s and 50s with no sign of illness, and if the character of Amy Pond lasts beyond this season, I want to see an "Amy Pond Adventures".

Ummm, I'm pretty sure I don't have a TARDIS, and never been to the future, but this is old news for me somehow. I can't remember when, or the source of it, but I already knew this would be the last season for the Ponds. I thought we all knew that.

Wasn't there an announcement at some point that they're contracts wouldn't be renewed after this season? I like them both, and will miss them, but at the same time I'm ready for a new dynamic that a fresh face would bring to the TARDIS.

2011-12-16 09:39:52 AM
I will bet money that their ending will involve the mystery staircase in Amy's house.
