No surprise here. Paper news is so last century.

/I hear their going to fire the town crier as well. No one seems to want to hear the news screamed in the public square anymore.

I work at a newspaper. We'll be in business for years because of the small town we're in, and everybody likes seeing their neighbors in the paper. It's fun enough, but I wouldn't want to work at a large city paper. I have no idea how they're all still in business.

I don't get it subby - what is shocking about her appearance? (I'm assuming sarcasm, otherwise I might as well start submitting headlines that point out that water is sometimes wet, rocks are sometimes hard, and the sky is sometimes blue). You expected her to look like an old unhappy-looking woman, or perhaps a man in drag? You expected her to not look like that? Is it just a shock to you that a CEO of a company was female?

If I may speculate as to subby's intentions, she looks like an old man-hating lesbian shrew. Which would, in the estimation of some, correspond to the tone and content of the Times.

Came to say this. There are very few buggy whip manufacturers around either. What percentage of Teamsters would you guess could harness and hitch a team?

Just as moving from horse-drawn to internal combustion represented a huge step forward, so the demise of newspapers will, ultimately, represent a step forward. TV was a pretty radical step in the rapid dissemination of information but it left that information in the hands of a few. Just as newspapers required a huge investment in printing presses, staff, etc. to operate, so radio and TV require large investments. Those who control the medium control the news. NYT masthead says "All the News That's Fit to Print." And who decides what's fit? Likewise, TV news producers decide which stories to cover and which to cover up. The internet and worldwide access to it have changed that dynamic. It costs almost nothing to get online and the masses get to control content.

There are certainly flaws - no system is perfect. There are any number of liars on the internet. But there have been liars and plagiarists in newspapers, radio and TV as well. Caveat Emptor.

Imagine an old man-hating lesbian shrew with a ticking biological clock. They want a baby SOOOoooo bad, but don't want to go about getting one the hard old fashion way. Besides all the cool leftist/minor celebrity types seem to be outsourcing that sort of thing to China.

Did she rape a teenager or something? It's not normal to announce a retirement of a CEO with no advance notice and no plan to replace her in the immediate future. She must have seriously pissed off the Board.

She wanted to charge $5 a month for "premium" content and blow the profits on beer and boobies.

Like any moran would actually pay to see shiat on the Internet.

It costs almost nothing to get online and the masses get to control content.

They're working on that. Once SOPA's passed and they get rid of those pesky free speech laws, it'll be Comcast, ATT and Verizon for the win.

NYT is still ridiculous though. Those ads a few years ago, trying to reach kids and young adults... embarrassing.

The Newspaper is a joke. The Inquirer is more reliable anymore. She was so pro-union, until the union affected her company. Then screw them. She was so anti-CEO bonuses for failed companies, until she gave herself a multi-million dollar one while laying off staff. She is just like Al Gore and Ted Kennedy, a rich liberal hypocrite.

jigger: Jesus, you retards. She's a gray lady.

OK, so I didn't know that the NYT was also known as "The Grey Lady" for its appearance, which consists of lots of text with little graphics. So subby was making a play on words. Great. Only thing, she doesn't look very grey. Just obviously middle-aged.

That's the joke.jpg???

2011-12-16 10:59:11 AM
Debeo Summa Credo: If I may speculate as to subby's intentions, she looks like an old man-hating lesbian shrew.

Ah, so water-is-wet, then? Ok. Or maybe it's the "Grey Lady" thing, though that would shift from being unamusing to being unamusing and nonsensical, since...well...she's not "grey" per se; late middle age, somewhere in the 50's I'd guess.

So yeah, I don't get why it would be posted. Or further - why it would be green-lit. But hey - it did at least generate conversations about why it was posted, so...Drew still wins ;)
