Home Wine Kitchen - St. Louis
Annie Gunn's Smokehouse - St. Louis
Sub Zero Vodka Bar - St. Louis
City Diner - San Francisco

As for the SLIDESHOW in the link, I'm interested in trying Smashburger. And I can also say without equivocation that Shake Shack SUUUUUCCCCKKKKKSSSSSSS.

It doesn't help that the D.C. location is about a block away from Black and Orange, which is the best burger within D.C. proper.

Suck it, BGR.

Blah blah blah... and yet another burger thread???

fark has like three threads these days... one sucking off in-n-out, another is the non ending tip thread, and who the hell even cares what the third one is.

The search for the best burger is pretty dumb. Burgers aren't that hard to make, just fast food restaurants have found a way to ruin a good thing. You're guaranteed to find a great burger in almost every town you visit, they're just not on the surface

GreenAdder: I still prefer we use the term "food hipsters" to describe them.

I prefer food hamsters.

The best burger I've ever had was when I made Alton Brown's Burger of the Gods. The simplicity is mindblowing, but dang if it didn't create the best burger I've ever had ...

Link for Directions (new window)

8 ounces chuck, trimmed, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
8 ounces sirloin, trimmed, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

That's pretty much it ... grind it yourself (I ask the butcher to do it, saves me a step), cook. I got distracted, overcooked one of the burgers and it was still juicy.

If you're in Omaha, say, for the CWS or some shiat, go here for burgers:

King Kong
Don & Millies
Broncos (Only the one on Leavenworth; the one at 132nd and Pacific sucks)

/Considering fast-food burgers only here.

The best burger I've ever had was at a place called Mac's American Bar in San Jose, Costa Rica. Maybe the meat just isn't as oily and hormoney as it is here. Not sure, but that burger tasted like hope.

Airgas, or any industrial chemical/gas supply should have LN2 in stock. The nitrogen itself is fairly cheap, but the dewar isn't.

Just yesterday I noticed a five guys when I was downtown. I have no idea how long it's been there, or how many times I walked by it without noticing it. I figured I'd give it a go as I was so hungry I was on the verge of passing out, and thought it'd be better than the Wendy's two doors down. Very disappointing experience. The food was expensive crap and the employees were all disgruntled hipsters wearing designer eyeglasses with nasty attitudes.

Going to stick with the Mom and Pop burger joints/delis. God knows we have enough of them around and they are a much better value than the chain grease pits.

Best burger? It's cooked on my grill out on the deck by the pool. Seriously if you cant go to the grocery and pick out some first class meat , season it and grill it to your specs you need to turn in your man card and give your wife your balls in a jar.

Yes, yes and yes. Went there three times on a trip to Portland last year. Real good.

My brother and his family are coming to town next week for the holidays from out of state. Of course, they HAVE to go to In An Out. I gave them a list of about ten burgers in the area that-I think- are better ( Squeeze Inn, The Counter, Nations, Smashburger, etc) and they will not be detoured. But, like my wife says" they want the burger they want and not what you think they should want. So to hell with them."
Awesome.

seriously? well i guess as far as regional "fast" food chains go, they're probably 2nd to braums. i actually do really like whataburger occasionally...but i go there far more for breakfast on a buns or grilled chicken sandwiches (on wheat bun with only mustard, pickles, and grill onions...their mustard and ketchup are the best)

Can't stand it. The only place that serves something worse is Sonic. The meat is always dry and has no recognizable beef flavor and is saturated with what tastes like stale, old frying oil. The only point Whataburger gets is that the toppings are reasonably fresh, whereas Sonic might as well dig theirs out of Whataburger's trash bins.

If you really want a Kincaid's burger you really need to go to the original on Camp Bowie. I'm not as impressed with the newer stores. Also in Fort Worth:

Tommy's (I-30 and Green Oaks or the original one on Camp Bowie)
Charlie's (Granbury, near I-20)
Dutch's (TCU)

sonic...another place where i tend to go for something besides burgers. sometimes on my pig-out day i'll go for a foot long chili cheese coney with chili cheese tots. sonic always smells like a carnival's midway...all that deep fried stuff filling the air with its aroma

First time I went there, this is what I thought.

Second time I went there (it's convenient), I thought the burger rocked.

Third time, I was back at disappointing. Maybe they're just inconsistent?

Katsu Burger in Seattle, however, is pretty intriguing. Tried it once, and was impressed. And a lot to explore on the menu.

that's what everyone tells me...go to the original kincaids

h2 in downtown (just north of sundance square area) is pretty good...but it's about a half-step over that invisible line i have marking the difference between a BURGER and a sandwich that happens to have ground meat patty on it

five guys: my main gripes with them are that they have no small order of fries and the burger, while not "expensive", is overpriced for what you get...make the burger about $1 cheaper, and offer me a normal order of fries for under $2 and i'd like the place.

Being born and raised in California I was always an In N Out guy, when I wanted a quick burger, and didn't want to believe 5 guys was better. Now that I've been stationed on the east coast, and have had 5 guys, I gotta say, 5 guys is much better. But it also costs twice as much.

If I want a damn good burger though, and I'm in northern California, it has to be Mike's at the Crossroards. Holy shiat that place is incredible. They used to have two locations, Mikes at the Crossroads, and Mike's at the Yard. Mikes at the yard was built into a cattle auction stockyard, adjacent to an old slaughterhouse, but decided to shut down when it was going to cost 50 thousand to bring the building up to code.

pretty much my thoughts on the 2 places...living in the dfw metro and getting both restaurants in the area just within the last year, i've heard plenty of hype on both. you summed it up quite nicely. and i'd still rather go to some other places that aren't in-n-out or 5guys.

I don't get the deal w/Sonic, either. Their burgers are not only dry & tasteless, they're DRENCHED in salt. Best burgers I've had were at Cheeburger Cheeburger.
