Why didn't he just go into suspended animation in the Arctic?

Wait a year. He'll be rebooted Post-Crisis.

/Yeah, I know, different company.

The article failed to mention that shortly after Captain America #1 was published, the FBI assigned several G-Men to Kirby & Simon as protection against all of the American Bundists who would have loved to take a piece out of these two Jewish guys. Even as late as early 1940, some Americans actually admired the Third Reich and the way it did things (today, we call them "republicans").

But if there is reincarnation, he will be starting over with a new #1.

That's two comic co-creators, quick hide Steve Ditko!

LMAO - The only thing keeping Israeli Jews from being driven into the Mediterranean Sea is American Republicans. Even American liberal Jews (oxymoron) don't care what happens to them.

I'm sure Israel notes Newt and Michele's concern.

A comic book dude dies and we have a Joooz thread? Really? Is this a thing that's happening?

Glad to see a wonderful comic thread descend into politics and shiat. Eff all of you.

Why would Jews (new window) want to kill other Jews for expressing an anti-Nazi POV?

Looks like we've got our third: Eduardo Barreto of Judge Parker and Teen Titans just passed away.

It really hacks me off that these creators MIGHT get a passing mention (Ditko, anyway.) on the news, but when Stan Lee goes, we're going to get a 60 minute special about how he was the "Father of Modern Comics." He's important, yes, no denying it, but the rest of these guys are just as important.

Sure. Just like a few months ago when we all mourned the passing of Steve Jobs, inventor of computers, but no one knows Dennis Ritchie died a week later.

I heart Spidey so much. It's the the gift of the character to put a human dimension on the great and mighty. Even the wholly admirable ones.

And that is the gift of Captain America that I was glad the seemed to have kept sight of with the movie (though still it kinda sucked). The character is not "''Merica F-k Yeah!" jingoism, but represents the ideals this nation was founded on which are universal ones: liberty, honor, using strength to protect the weak, etc. Which means sometimes going against the government. I know Civil War was not the first time Cap told the U.S. Gov't to go to hell.

Just Republicans?

The White House is signing off on a controversial new law that would authorize the U.S. military to arrest and indefinitely detain alleged al Qaeda members or other terrorist operatives captured on American soil. (new window)

Flying across the Atlantic solo doesn't give you the excuse to promote "The Elders of Zion" and support Aryan philosophy. This is one of the reasons why Lindy was sent to the Pacific theater during WWII. The Allies didn't trust him to shoot down Luftwaffe planes and worried he might even try to hand-deliver a P-51 to Hitler. It was less of a headache to have him as far away from Germany as possible during the war.

As a guy who has a Captain America tattoo, I'm sad to see him go. He did a lot for early comics, and although he didn't get the lasting success and attention of Stan Lee, people will still remember this guy. He had a good, long run and at the very least got to see one of his creations on the big screen.

To be fair, you could have said the same thing if he had died in 1991 (and been in a Russian theater before his death).

Never heard "Bundists" used like in the Wikipedia article you linked. I've always heard it used to refer to members of the German-American Bund (new window).

He helped create an archetype, or at least the gold standard for the archetype. Not many get to say that.

He helped Jack 'King' Kirby to create.

He created part of my own personal mythology.

Good on him then.
