(Labspaces.net) Interesting African ant can paralyze and kill prey without even touching it. Don't worry -- there's almost zero chance that one of them will crawl into your nose tonight as you sleep   (labspaces.net) divider line 24

The article doesn't state the obvious: If it does crawl into your nose tonight while you're sleeping, it can't back out, it has to keep going forward. It will find an exit usually through an ear canal. The whole process takes about two weeks during which the patient will be subjected to excruciatingly intense pain that cannot be dulled by any known pharmaceuticals. After the insect exits the aural canal a thorough examination must be performed to determine if it deposited a cluster of eggs. If it did the whole process starts over.

I hope it's not like the rabies test where they chop up your brain.

It does that to termites. It can't kill a human.

Well, let's be fair. Any ant can do that. Even the ones living all around every one of us.

Seeing as I has first world problems, namely my retard housemates will wake me up after I have like 6 hours sleep, and I don't sleep on the ground in Africa, I am not fearing this at all

Also 10 minutes to kill ONE termite. It would have to be a freakin' BIG ant to pose a threat to a human. Bigger than my nose, at any rate.

A frican' ant can paralyze and kill prey without even touching it? What part of the world is it from?

The last paragraph articulated what I wanted to say. If we can eliminate the "attract fellow ants" chemical from the mix, we might have a great combination termite insecticide / ant repellent to use.

I dunno, it sure looks like one of them ants is poking the termite in Fig. A. I guess that's why I'm not an entomologist.

Outer freakin' Limits. I saw that episode when I was a little kid about 9yrs old and I had nightmares about cat sized ants with faces for a month. They were in the trees and would drop on me, they chased me around the neighborhood, they ate the next door neighbors dog, they ate my parents... it was ghastly. Seeing that pic now after all these years- I literally got a chill the moment I saw it and it registered.

/if i have nightmares about ants with faces again you will be the first and only person on my ignore list, evar!
