Since News Corporation took over, the intellectual decline of the Wall Street Journal is shocking. I used to get daily deliveries. Now, I don't even read it if I someone gave it to me.

To be fair, since the National Review added its Online content, it has likewise taken a sharp decline. Intellect is apparently only for elitists who like to be all arrogant and lord it over the Everyday Americans...

Remember in the old days, when you were reading, and you came across a term you didn't understand? Did you kick and scream and demand that your information source dumb itself down to your level? Or did you look it the f*ck up, and take it as an opportunity to educate yourself?

If the latter, congratulations. If the former, you're a big part of what's wrong with this country. Despite what the Conservatives would have you believe, Ignorance is NOT a point of pride, nor is it a badge of honor.

The sad part is that it's now ONE MILLION TIMES EASIER TO DO SO than it was in the "old days". Google "Define *term*" and google will list the definition BEFORE THE FIRST RESULTS.

netweavr: To be fair, it's an archaic term used to describe a defunct system of political thought.

No, it was a term that was used ironically, considering it was first in use around 1876 (as far as Google can tell me) when the party was only about 20 years old.

The Ironic thing is that everyone paints the GOP as the typically traditionalist, closed-minded and stubborn old coots, but it wasn't so long ago that the Dems were like that..they actually controlled the Deep South for a long time and were blatantly pandering to the segregationists.

Funny thing, politics.

It's because they've retroactively applied it from the future and we're already censoring it.

Yep. The conservatives left the Democrats once Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act and lost the South.

Teddy Roosevelt was a Progressive and a Republican... Now, apparently, "progressive" is a dirty word to many Republicans and wackos like Glenn Beck.

Southern Dem ideology was also almost the exact opposite of Yankee Dem ideology.

On a related note, the media report on Republican/conservative/GOP/right-wing political affiliation MUCH more than Democrat/liberal/DNC/left-wing affiliation. Oddly, that goes for liberal-leaning AND conservative-leaning publications. Haven't figured out the "why," but the bias is there. Aside from a conscious attempt to persuade the readership with a "bandwagon" approach (which obviously wouldn't compute with conservative-leaning publications), what could explain it?
