No farking kidding. I used to fully compile and run gentoo exclusively, This was before we had 2 kids. Had not compiled it since 05.

The Gentoo penguin does not come pre-compiled. You have to run the make scripts yourself.

I use Gentoo, and I keep using it, because I like the way that portage works.

I use a small set of CFLAGS (-j3 -O3 -march amd64 for everything but WINE if you care), and it's one of the few things I'm not an asshole about.

I switched to Gentoo years ago, on deciding that' compile from source' was a less obnoxious design philosophy than 'constantly fellate RMS's increasingly obstructive philosophy'
