Too bad. That's capitalism. These people are only poor because they don't work hard enough. Sure, they all can't be super rich, because only the super rich possess the superior will, but they can at least be better off. You know, Audi A6 poor.

Bush is still the President?

Obama's had 3 years to make changes and instead of improving it's gotten worse. I know it's an election year and all, but I don't think blaming Bush will win it for you again.

and since he's a dictator, he can make those changes whenever he wants, amirite?

oh, wait - you mean it's actually congress that enacts legislation? a congress controlled by the GOP, which is unified in their opposition to ANY legislation that might improve the economy? well, that makes sense then!

This is how it should be in a thriving Plutocracy like ours... In fact, it probably should be closer to 99%.

Ok, let me make this clear.....

THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT HAVE ANY INFLUENCE OVER THE WAGE GAP! That goes for Bush, Obama and which talking head gets elected next.

Corporate America decides how the revenue is to be distributed....period.

Corporate America decided that wages need not keep up with inflation over 20 years ago.

Our country turning into a cleptocracy/oligarchy has consequences. But the very wealthy are even more wealthy so that is nice.

The government has a lot to do with it actually. The SEC failed to police big banks, leading to the real estate crisis, which led to people losing their homes which made up the bulk of their assets. Health care costs keep going up, and are the number one reason Americans go bankrupt. The government could do something about that, but they'd rather let the market handle it. Public education is worse in poorer areas, perpetuating poverty. Should I go on?

Reagan inherited a shiatty economy. He had a hostile congress. In 3 years against all odds he presided over a clear turnabout in the economy.

Obama inherited a shiatty economy. He has had a hostile congress for only 1 year. In three years the best that could be said is it hasn't gotten worse.

Clinton said it best. It's the economy, stupid. Always has been, always will be.

I know how we'll fix it! We'll lower taxes on the wealthy so the economy will grow!

It's a completely brilliant plan.

Robert Rector, a senior research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, questioned whether some people classified as poor or low-income actually suffer material hardship. He said that while safety-net programs have helped many Americans, they have gone too far. He said some people described as poor live in decent-size homes, drive cars and own wide-screen TVs.

He is so right. In my town's downtown many of the homeless now have tents! They are living high on the hog!!

Reagan didn't have a hostile Congress; he had an opposition Congress that was willing to compromise with him to achieve their common goals.

Obama has had a hostile Congress all 3 years (ignoring the filibuster doesn't make it go away) that is explicitly unwilling to compromise.

If we had a cooperative congress, this shiat would take more than 3 years to fix.

But we do not have a cooperative congress, the GOP is bent on cockblocking anything Obama or the Democrats do. Anything. No matter if it helps the economy, they block it.

Now, I'm not going to say that W was the sole person to blame for the economy, the blame lies on the feet of many people, but the Bush Cuts did not help.
