Really? Brian Williams?

I am appalled.

Mark Halperin has a column in Time called "The Important Questions." It's the exact opposite.

Is there somewhere you can see the whole list for this year, and I'm just missing it?

I hope this "appearing on Morning Joe" rule doesn't apply to the great Roger Bennett.

I agree with the author on some of those people, but he's also being awfully pedantic.

Thomas Friedman sorely belongs in the top 5. He sucks less than many on the list but Friedman has a huge influence despite the banality of his observations and centrism fetish.

Except for a decent article every once in awhile, Salon pretty much is pedantic.

Yeah.. I can't find it either. I clicked on the 2010 list by accident. I'll just assume it's the same people.

Looks like they are trickling them out. 20-14 are the only ones up.

I'm assuming Mika Bryxzxs92e, the co-host on "Morning Joe" is in the top 10?

Was it me or was that horrible to navigate through.

They appear to be released sequentially at certain times (new ones at the top). Scroll down from Joe Scarborough (#15) currently.

It was horrible to navigate through. I'm not a huge fan of Salon's new redesign, it's rather confusing. Usually I get used to a site after a few days but I'm still tripped up by this after a month or whatever it's been.

Perhaps this will be reposted when there is a full, navigable article.

"All of Them"

Seriously, are there any real reporters out there who don't simply parrot whatever the latest press release or sound bite is fed to them? You know, people who try and gather information that people in power aren't willing distributing?

sigdiamond2000: How is Wolf Blitzer only #15?

The most painful experience in cable news is watching Wolf trying to have playful banter with Jack Cafferty at the end of "The Situation Room". It's like watching Michael Bay try to tackle a Trauffaut remake.

Not saying anything about the list, but the author is guilty of the written version of every criticism he makes of these people. Sounds like he is just jealous that his brand of snarky, belittling, name calling has not got him a gig on TV yet.

2011-12-15 01:33:03 PM
You're telling me David Brooks is worse than Megyn Kelly Joe Scarborough, Wolf Blitzer and John Stossel? I agree with almost nothing the man says, but at least he seems like he could, and would, have a reasonable discussion about it.

And this is something like the 3rd time I've seen the word bourgeois be used in this list.

Including the one that made this list? No. There aren't. Maybe some folks on youtube. Hard to say.

20. Brian Williams
19. Ruth Marcus
18. Jon Meacham
17. John Stossel
16. Andrea Peyser
15. Wolf Blitzer
14. Joe Scarborough
13. Megyn "Pepper Spray is a food product" Kelly
12. David Brooks
11. Bill Keller

Top 10 coming out tomorrow. I think Kelly should have been higher because I think "Pepper Spray is basically a food product" is the dumbest thing any political pundit has said this year.

did someone not get allowed on morning joe or did morning joe say something to hurt their feeliings?

Wolf Blizter should be #1. Brian Williams is on the list? Really?

I can see why Scarborough made the list but I don't think he's a hack. I am openly a fan of "Morning Joe." There, I said it. I'm coming out of my Starbucks closet. The show does have its moments of banality, but there is some insightful discussion to be had. At the very least it's the best thing on TV at 6 am.

I keep a list of ones i think are good, something of an all-star team. Obviously it needs the occassional update as I find new ones worthy of inclusion or team members retire or get cut for drops in performance, but here's the list, 18 strong, as it currently stands:

Christiane Amanpour
Stephen Colbert
Anderson Cooper
Sanjay Gupta
Gwen Ifill
Laura Ling
Lisa Ling
Rachel Maddow
Soledad O'Brien
Nate Silver
Jon Stewart
Andrew Sullivan
Matt Taibbi
Mariana van Zeller
Fareed Zakaria
Louis Theroux
Bob Ley
Jeremy Schaap

Addicted to Coffee: Brian Williams is on the list? Really?

Williams mostly made it because of this:
A January appearance on "The Late Show With David Letterman," in which Letterman, who in recent years has often displayed an environmentalist streak, asked Williams if recent freak weather events could be traced to anthropogenic climate change. Williams, mugging but clearly uncomfortable, declined to even acknowledge the existence of climate change itself. He refused to "take sides," and joked, "What have I done to deserve this?" A perfect encapsulation of the uselessness of the "objective" (and idiotic) network nightly news anchor, too cowardly or dumb to "take sides" on a "debate" between craven political actors and the nearly universal scientific consensus.

Well, this calls into focus the credibility of the list altogether. Do we really expect our Blitzers and Williamses to know more than jack shiat? The editorial clowns, sure, we can rip them a new one for being puppets, or know-nothings, or the like, but to have the expectation that some dick behind a teleprompter should know more than some Alabama hussy getting farked in the back of a Camaro every night is a bit obtuse on the Salon article writer's part.

//whoa, random future troll, gonna stop you right there, every politician uses a teleprompter so STFU before you even start.

I guess I just feel like that's a bit of a stretch. I get that a lot of people think that reporters who try too hard to remain "objective" see that it's basically a sham, but to single out Brian Williams? It's sort of like singling out and criticizing Angelina Jolie for being a vapid celebrity, when there are many, many other vapid celebrities (but she just happens to be the most prominent).
