I didn't even know the proletariat had a car. They're really moving up in the world.

the slipperiest surface known to mankind

Which would be any piece of paper on which a Massachusetts state legislature has applied his signature.

"...motherf*cker was speeding like a bastiche and we really don't want to admit that..."

Was that so hard?

You know, the general public wouldn't have a clue how to read the raw data that comes from one of these things. What you mean is that you don't want outside experts to look at it and say the guy was speeding like a sonovabiatch, which the general public *does* understand.

Damn, this just caused my belief in fairness and honesty in police and gov't to come crashing down.
I am crestfallen.

If only there was some state organization that existed to carry out judge orders to force the police to comply.

Is this Arizona? The GOP bastards running this state are always claiming that the voters were "misled" or "confused" or "didn't really mean to vote that way"...

A car hitting an ice patch or rolling over would lead its tires to spin faster, inaccurately suggesting a higher speed, state police spokesman David Procopio said.

This quote should be used in every trial for reckless driving where the black box data becomes evidence.

Because they're in possession of the car and the data hasn't been retrieved yet.

Misleading?

Give me a farking break...

Anyone who's ever dealt with the MA State Police knows they are arrogant sons of a biatches.

They ought to force them to turn it over just to knock these smug assholes down a peg or two.

"ice patch" "airborne wheels"

easy to tell the difference between these continuous excess speed. when a crown vic goes from 55 to 90 in less than 3 seconds, the wheels hit ice or left contact with the road. otherwise, it's speeding.

Oregon is one of those states that periodically talks about installing GPS in every private car "for tax purposes." I don't see why every public vehicle can't be fitted with a GPS that reports its speed and location to a publicly-accessible website.

/whistles innocently.
//Would look into a waiver for things like unmarked police cars, though I'd be concerned about having a loophole like that.

2011-12-15 01:09:12 PM
Dang it I was too late again. I thought I was pretty sharp pointing out how there are separate legal standards for us vs. them. Maybe I'm not the only one who sees this.

2011-12-15 01:09:21 PM
Who the fark do cops think they are? Seriously. They need to be brought down quite a few pegs.

2011-12-15 01:10:01 PM
Because the recorder will reveal that it actually was a drunk police officer doing the driving at the time.

One law for us, and another for them.

So in other words, the Mass police are saying that vehicle data recorders are untrustworthy in determining what was happening before a crash. That's a pretty big precedent...

Do all new (yes, I know TFA states it was a 2007) cars have a black box or just emergency vehicles?

If so, I'm sure the insurance companies would love to see that data.

2011-12-15 01:12:06 PM
In denying the Herald's public records request, state police argued the data could be misleading. A car hitting an ice patch or rolling over would lead its tires to spin faster, inaccurately suggesting a higher speed, state police spokesman David Procopio said.

There wasn't any ice on the road last month, and if he rolled the car, he probably would have mentioned that.

2011-12-15 01:12:19 PM
And the cover up is going to cause more trouble than the data ever would.

Why are people demanding this data? In case he was speeding? Give me a break. The guy was on duty which means he can travel at any speed that he deems reasonable. He hit an icy patch and wrecked the car, big deal. What does a 2007 Crown Vic set you back these days? $4000? Tops. Let's all just celebrate the fact that he's alive, unless of course you wish more people died in car wrecks. Then you have more problems than can probably be fixed.
