Foreclosure notice Feb of '09.
Actual sheriff's sale Nov of '11.
Now have a summons from BoA because they want to reduce the 6mo redemption period to 5wks.

Seriously. Fark up our credit by dragging out the foreclosure for 2.5 years and NOW they feel a sense of urgency??

by which I mean 7. I think I need more coffee.

Seriously though, if you're going to end up down that road, better sooner than later. Get it over and done with.

The whole business culture of this country has become so corrupt that this is starting to seem like a third world country. I guess we are becoming a third world country, because the census found that 50% of US citizens are poor or low income.

We are letting the bank "get it over and done with" but there's this small matter of spending three years in limbo fixing our credit only to have them finally foreclose while we were in the process of attempting a deed-in-lieu (since we had spent so much time fixing our credit, anyway). Now instead of waiting "three years" after a foreclosure to buy a house again, we are, in effect, going to be waiting six. So, this large part of me is not "chill" about the whole thing. They can have the house, (as I have begged them to do repeatedly for the past three years... We had to move to find work three years ago, so they could have had the house at any time) but I don't want them to screw us to the wall in the process. Will not bore everyone with the details (the outline of events was four pages long when I typed it out for the Independent Foreclosure Review folks). But... as with most things in life, there's more to the story. Just shaking my tiny fist of rage.

You farked up your own credit by not making payments, and got 2.5 years free rent. Quit biatching.

Great! Occupy time. Get 'em cheap, i.e. free.

If you think this is bad, think about what this tells the next generation who is already being robbed of their ability to make money. A lot of America's manufactured stability comes from keeping the young ignorant, continuing the cycle of corrupt greed. How do you think the Baby Boomers will fare when it comes time to sell off their houses to the next few generations who realize housebuying is a sham, job security is a pipe dream, and consumerism is just downright toxic?

The worst thing about economies like this is that it won't take much to disrupt the system as it stands. I used to think I wanted a home, a stable job, and what America calls 'security.' What I learned is that if I had to, leaving America wouldn't be such a great loss. Especially since it's pretty much a ghetto with a very high opinion of itself. Thanks, Republican Economic Theories!

You should move to Europe, I hear their economy is great! No such thing as consumerism there, either. Also, everyone is totally humble. China and Japan are also good.

I'm seriously considering Australia or New Zealand. Right now my savings account is slowly transforming from "House Down Payment" to "GTFO".

Hope you've got a lot of money saved up. Friends from Brisbane came over and found the beachfront housing in Sunset Beach cheap compared to what they were paying back home. Beachfront housing in Sunset Beach is in the millions, btw.

didn't really finish my thought, but anyways, when they tell me their total cost of living is better in coastal Orange County than it was in Australia, it leads me to believe that you'd need a monumental change in compensation to afford the difference. Kind of like moving to Hawaii

I'm an American living in Switzerland for graduate school. The economy here is gangbusters. Unemployment is something like 2-3%.

The economy is actually doing so well that a bunch of the world is buying Francs. This makes the Swiss grumpy, as a strong Franc makes exports more expensive, repels tourists, and generally is bad for business.

Things are more expensive in general here, yes, but if you have a job here that pays in Francs it's not that bad. (Note: I do not have such a job. My wife's new job should be starting in early 2012, so we'll be all right. GI Bill money is also helping a bit.)

Swiss beer is pretty good too, and being this close to Germany means that access to excellent beer is quick, easy, and (due to the strong Franc) relatively cheap. They also have beer advent calendars, which is amazing.

/still, I miss burritos

The major banks CAUSED (as in deliberately) the great depression as a land grab. Until we get rid of debt based money we will have endless boom and bust cycles and land grabs like this.

Too bad the Swiss are morally bankrupt.

All the Swiss people I've met here are decent folks. As far as I can tell, they're like any ordinary people anywhere else on the planet.

Are there some morally bankrupt people here? No doubt. I suspect that the majority of Swiss people, like the majority of all people, are decent people. I'm certainly willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Well, I live in Northern Virginia now, so I'm used to a ridiculous cost of living. I've been looking at their job websites periodically and my skills are marketable over there. I still have a year or two of saving before I make my decision though.

Which is why I mentioned my anecdote about coastal OC, which is even expensive by LA standards

Bullshiat, Banks effectively receive higher than value rent for most properties they foreclose on. Do you really think you get back your down payment, any updates or repairs you have done while paying a higher per month fee than it would be to rent?

Just because you are a moron whom is unable to comprehend how things actually work, and that the intelligent founders of this country decided to make it okay for you to speak your idiotic words, does not mean that it is a good idea for you to take advantage of it. People like you with no insight or ability drive this country into the shiatter.

The Swiss do have a history of playing both ends towards the middle. See: WWII. Then again, what is morally bankrupt to some is prudent to others.

BTW: Do. Not. Speed. In. Switzerland. They take quite a dim view of any Top Gear imitations there.

/oops. sorry officer.

There is a house in my neighborhood currently in forecolosure. The lady who lives next to it told my wife a doctor was interested in it, but the bank wouldn't let the guy go into the house to look at it. Its about a 2500sf place on around an acre for around $300k. The banks farked up an got all of us in this mess and now they won't do shiat to get out of it. I understand they need to be much more cautious about how much and who they lend to, but they are WAY too panicky about it.

QFT. It's almost as if, having realized that they have virtually no natural resources, they made a conscious decision to build their economy around discreet banking for foreigners that are looking to launder money and dodge taxes.

And if you don't pay it, they will fee the hell out of you, send you to collections and then take you to court.

THEN foreclose on your ass!
