Why do they put the implant under the muscle? Wouldn't that make her boobs look more like a dude's pects?

metametameta: Why do they put the implant under the muscle? Wouldn't that make her boobs look more like a dude's pects?

Because she had had a mastectomy. If they just shove it under the skin and remaining scar tissue, there isn't really anything to hold it in place and you end up with wandering boobs.

My body once swallowed my testicle during the "Valsalva maneuver ".

metametameta: Why do they put the implant under the muscle? Wouldn't that make her boobs look more like a dude's pects?

They started pushing the technique of putting it under the muscle because they made more money off a more invasive surgery. They sell it by telling women "then it's YOUR tissue over the implant ", as if the skin & existing adipose tissue don't count. Is approriate for really thin or extremely small chested women.

The article also says her ribs were weakened by the cancer/surgery. I'm guessing this is not unusual among breast cancer survivors? Maybe it'll lead to different techniques of breast reconstruction being developed that doesn't put pressure on the ribs when the patient stretches.

2011-12-15 11:59:52 AM
I think her ribs were weakened by heart surgery. Sometimes they crack the rib cage open to get to the heart.

The Valsalva maneuver is a breathing technique in which a person takes a deep breath and then attempts to exhale against a closed airway.

As opposed to the Vuvuzela maneuver in which a person takes a deep breath and then attempts to annoy everyone in a 100-foot radius.

If I have to get this done, I want a tram flap reconstruction or something similar. They take tissue from the abdomen and reconstruct the breast. It's a tummy tuck and a boob job, all in one.

2011-12-15 12:02:34 PM
The valsalva maneuver is very useful for taking a good poop if you don't eat enough fibre.

Valsalva maneuver: A maneuver in which a person tries to exhale forcibly with a closed glottis (the windpipe) so that no air exits through the mouth or nose as, for example, in strenuous coughing, straining during a bowel movement, or lifting a heavy weight. The Valsalva maneuver impedes the return of venous blood to the heart.

Also, putting the implant under muscle tissue (theoretically) makes it look more 'natural', as opposed to looking like someone glued two oranges to a woman's chest.

//YMMV

Or because this procedure is objectively better than making the prosthetic look like a fridge magnet stuck to her chest. Putting it under the muscle hasn't been an option for very long because the old mastectomy procedure removed that too.

From what I understand, it makes them perkier and more natural-looking. A gal I worked with had an A cup and had C's put in, and they put them under her muscle. They looked and felt very natural. (Yes, we all felt it at a staff meeting... it was an all-women crew of nurses).

My husband got this in his medical journal email last night and showed me the pics and Xrays. Freaky! I'm glad I had him explain how that happened cause my brain was having trouble wrapping around the concept.

Is wondering boob kinda like lazy eye, where if I am staring at some chick's chest, she's got one boob staring back at me, and the other looking at some dude across the room, and then I don't know who has her chest's full attention? Because, God, I hate that.

Ridiculous. Everyone knows guys LOVE that look. Or at least most of us must, considering how often it shows up in pr0n.

wow, this should be funny, but it is hard to work, lets try

Is there no problem that bigger breasts cannot solve, I mean this would not have happened if she had just got bigger implants.

I good with going green, but recycling yourself is not going help.

Good things that don't go together, like Tabasco Sauce and Ice Cream or boobs and yoga.

One innie, one outie.

/yeah not my best
