Expecting a retraction from Dick Cheney any minute now.

And what was he thinking anyway? Airstrikes against Iran certainly can't be good for Halliburton's business there.

2011-12-15 09:53:37 AM
So that's why they wanted it back then.

Oh yeah, if there's one thing Cheney is known for, it's apologizing when he's wrong.

2011-12-15 09:55:57 AM
So...I guess the question is...are we missing a drone? I mean, someone has to know if one is missing or not. Sheesh. Just come out and say "uh, we aren't missing one, that's not ours"

2011-12-15 09:56:07 AM
So zero was confused when he begged for its return?

2011-12-15 09:56:47 AM
i thought it looked like the colour of a resin model kit, but I figured I'd keep my mouth shut for fears of looking like a jackass.

If Cheney had a fatal heart attack, I'd throw a three day party.

2011-12-15 09:57:41 AM
We asked for a fake back? It's real, it crashed, and this will happen more and more.

2011-12-15 09:58:16 AM
I doubt very seriously they would show the real one, as they woudl let the Us know the exact state and status of what the downed one looks like.

More likely, it is in pieces, but that's still valuable intel to have. A few samples of intact welds or paint can tell them a lot about how the tech works, ditto for any intact cameras.

2011-12-15 09:58:25 AM
But, but, but....why would Iran lie? They seem so honest and forthright all the time.

Now I'm just confused about everything.

2011-12-15 09:58:52 AM
Subby has confused "confirmed" with "opined".

ihatedumbpeople: So...I guess the question is...are we missing a drone? I mean, someone has to know if one is missing or not. Sheesh. Just come out and say "uh, we aren't missing one, that's not ours"

I think what they are saying is that the one shown in the video is a fake copy, possibly of a real but damaged drone.

2011-12-15 09:59:10 AM
I could tell it was a fake all along. Too many pixels.

2011-12-15 09:59:16 AM
Why is it so complicated for us to tell if it's a fake or not. We needed someone to tell us the WELDS are wrong? Jesus christ, don't we know what our own hardware looks like?

2011-12-15 09:59:19 AM
It never looked real to me, compared to other photos of the type I've seen. It wouldn't be the first time the Iranians faked something like this, either.

If it's not a moon, what is it? Some sort of a space station?

2011-12-15 09:59:50 AM
Didn't our government already confirm it is real by claiming it malfunctioned? Hell didn't Obama request it back? That is a lot of theater for something that "is fake".

2011-12-15 10:01:12 AM
Then they whispered over their shoulder, "ya think they bought it?"

2011-12-15 10:01:14 AM
U.S. vice president Dick Cheney, who said President Obama should have ordered an airstrike into Iran to destroy the drone and deny Iranians access to its technology.

See what kind of a freakin nutcase we had running the country, what a maniac.

2011-12-15 10:01:22 AM
I do not believe this.

2011-12-15 10:01:28 AM
Normally you'd think that our Intelligence departments would know whether or not they're missing one of these puppies. But, since they seem to lose a lot of stuff over there, maybe it's not all that surprising.

It's also kind of odd that a remote drone you're using for spying wouldn't have some sort of self destruct mechanism, or at least some way of cooking all the electronics.

2011-12-15 10:01:42 AM
This isn't the drone you are looking for. Move along...

So last week The Pentagon confirms it was a true story, now they're trying to backpedal.

So which lie is it this week, guys?

2011-12-15 10:03:20 AM
Unnamed, anonymous officials with some connection to the Pentagon seem to be very good at confirming and denying things.

My theory: It's all one guy. Some guy worked as a janitor at the Pentagon for a few weeks, years ago, and now he makes a living being an "anonymous source with ties to the Pentagon" for every hack journalist that wants to fabricate a story

Paging the "unlikely" tag!

2011-12-15 10:03:44 AM
I suspect an even darker conspiracy. I've inspected those photos forwards and back and those blast points on the drone were too accurate for sand people.

2011-12-15 10:03:53 AM
I was wondering why the drone seemed to be made out of paper Mache. This would explain it.

styckx: Didn't our government already confirm it is real by claiming it malfunctioned? Hell didn't Obama request it back? That is a lot of theater for something that "is fake".

Whether they have captured a drone or not, the thing they are showing on TV does not appear to be authentic.

2011-12-15 10:04:23 AM
The "official" making the claim sounds a lot more fake than the drone.

2011-12-15 10:04:25 AM
"The Islamic Republic of Iran... can give a crushing response and cut off hands of anyone who wants to violate its air, navy and land borders," Kazem Jalali told ISNA, Iran's state media agency.

And Iranians walk In single file to hide their numbers.

"Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran!"

And these shameless dumbfarks were ready to start a war over this phony? They've just been exposed as enormous fools.

I can't wait to hear their spin on this. They could do a youtube clip/campaign ad every day until Nov 2012 and get quite a bit of traction off of it: show a little model toy of a drone, and right next to it show the clips of these clowns talking about how we should start a war over the phony. Add a little circus music in the background for comedic effect.

2011-12-15 10:08:25 AM
No shiat it's a fake. The odds of the AV crashing and remaining mostly intact are extremely low. See if you can recognize the type of UAV that crashed in this pic:

http://www.vvdailypress.com/sections/ article/gallery/?pic=1&id=9532

Of course not all crashes are the same, but I'm pretty sure Iran is just screwing with everyone by showing a mock-up.

Obama is probably just asking for the wreckage back to see how far this can go.

/posting from my phone, sorry about the linking

2011-12-15 10:09:02 AM
The one in the picture is a fake used for propaganda. Iran really has a drone (or more likely, pieces of a drone) that either malfunctioned and crashed or was shot down. The one in the picture is just a cheap mock-up that was put together to have something to show off while they go over every inch of the real one.

The one that crashed is very real. The one they displayed is very fake and for propaganda purposes only.

The only question is do they have the real one? If so, where is it? If not, where is it?

My assumption is they recovered it and probably have it in some lab somewhere and the Russians or Chinese are analyzing it.
