Can't argue with that. I don't have much sympathy for low-lives that break into people's houses.

Of course dad believes his son is not like that. Because believing the alternative means accepting that he failed as a parent and raised a deadbeat.

Who wants to look into the mirror and have that revelation every morning?

Look. Bad people exist. Pretending they don't allows them to more easily do bad things.

Therefore I don't LIKE the idea that this guy was shot dead, but I prefer that to him running around doing MORE of what his arrest and conviction record says he did.

Stealing a purse left on a bench is one thing.

Breaking into people's houses, beating up pregnant women, stealing cars...yeah, that guy has no business living.

Arrests != convictions. The felony traffic convictions ("convicted" status inferred from the article's statement that he went to prison for them) sound disturbing, but both
a) whether they make him "that kind of a person"
and
b) what kind of person they make him
depend on the traffic felonies' specific nature.

"They are making it sound like he was terrorizing folks and just breaking into cars and breaking into houses and he was responsible for all this chaos going on," he said. "My son is not that kind of a person."

Neighbor Virginia Kresmery described what happened at her nearby home Tuesday. She said someone tore down her front door and stole her computer and other items while her mother was home. She believes that same person ran next door and tried to rob another family.

To get all historical n shiat, the safety of property (from theft by criminals OR the government) is one of the cornerstones of modern civilization and a basis for huge economic growth throughout history.

On the emotional side, while I don't think we should execute thieves on the spot, I have the insta-rage reaction about property theft in general.

Another misguided youth that has gone astray, with the proper upbringing and a little help from us, he could have become a productive member of society. Where have we failed him ? Instead of incarceration we should have tried harder to rehabilitate him.
Just kidding, but I do remember when this was actually the mind set.

Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with burglars these days.

Yikes, am I the only one who thinks it sounds a little sketchy that a guy was shot while stealing a getaway car?

If he is no threat to anyone else, shooting him is playing Judge Judy and executioner. Last I checked theft didn't get you the death penalty.

Not saying that this guy is someone I want around, but there are laws and appropriate levels of punishment. Now if the pregnant woman he was assaulting shot him...

FTA: "If someone is doing bodily harm to you or trying to kill you, you have the right to defend yourself. You have the right to meet force with force, according to state law," Channel 4 crime analyst Ken Jefferson said. "But if the person is committing a crime and is no threat to you, you are taking it to another level and may face charges."

unless you are in Texas.

Let the legal system figure out whether the victim shooting the suspect was justified.

In my mind he shouldn't be there in the first place. If he had stayed home instead of breaking into people's houses (an assumed risk) he would still be alive.

Should he have died? Maybe not. Would he have died if he wasn't robbing people? Definitely Not. Did he place himself in that situation knowing full-well the consequences that could happen? Absolutely.

He probably had to use force to try and get that car, or he became violent when the homeowner confronted him about stealing his car. In any case, I imagine violence was involved at some point, as most people won't just hop out of their car if you ask nicely.

There you have it. Can you end up depriving yourself of due process when you set out to do some carjacking and burglary? Yep, you sure can.
