While I would like my Packers to win the Super Bowl, my hankering for Muslim roasting and homosexual beating could be the turning point in my cheering.

I hate Christianity (as an organized religion), but I also think all the Tebow hate is stupid. This rabbi is also stupid.

I thought they put aside every Monday to do these things anyways.

Sir, while I respect your years of learing and study and the position you have earned in your community I am forced to say, with all due respect, STFU.

How is that different from usual?

Uh... Go Pats?

TFA: No one is rioting after football games because of Thomas Aquinas!

While I'm all about bringing prominent philosophers into contemporary conversation, I really didn't understand why all of a sudden Tebow became about Thomas Aquinas and "nihilistic" modernism.

You shut your farkng whore mouth. Nothing could justify rooting for the Cheatriots.

They should redo "The Inquisition" from History of the World Part I as part of the halftime show.

"Hey Timmy Tebow, what do you say?"

As if that rabbi would give two shiats if mosques were burned.

I know nothing of this Tim Turbow, but I do know that Turducken is one of the most vile concoctions ever on the face of the planet. If you could have gay sex between species, this would be very gay sex.

Seems the original Tebow article has been taken down. Link from this article now just goes to the Jewish Week main page, and a search for "Tebow" yields no results. So, kudos to the Jewish Week editors for realizing they had put up an asinine column and correcting it.

i didn't read the article, but was this Steve Kings power rankings comment?

Mr. Tebow could have avoided all this controversy by simply heeding Jesus to begin with:
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen of men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."

N.O will win. Let's start a civil war

2011-12-15 09:53:58 AM
and after the looting and burning of all other religious institutions Michelle Bachmann will be swept into power and the end of days shall commence.

Anyway, as for TFA, it's fine to criticize Hammerman's column as the idiocy that it is, but I wish the author hadn't played the victimized Christian card.

2011-12-15 09:55:18 AM
I've been seeing this guy's name everywhere lately. Can someone give me a quick explanation why that is? I breezed over his wiki page but didn't see anything notable, aside from something about him having messages in his face paint and how it was a big deal or something. Not that anything related to football is a big deal.

2011-12-15 09:55:30 AM
Did they need an excuse in the first place?

Probably my favorite verse from that mythology.

SilentStrider: How is that different from usual?

This. I don't doubt that somewhere out there is a Christian who would take Tebow's success as a validation of his faith (which, for the particular Christian in question would include bashing Muslims and gays), and go out and do so, saying that God spoke through Tebow and supports his actions.

However, if the Broncos lose, said crazy Christian would probably have done the same thing at some point anyway, but without using the word "Tebow", so it would just be a story about regular ol' Muslim- and gay-bashing, and not Tebow-inspired hate, so we probably wouldn't even hear about it.

That would require actually following their faith and not the paranoid, self-loving, money-worshiping cult they've become.

That verse is pointed towards people doing that to make themselves look good. I'd say Tebow's motivation is not that, but much closer to that referred to in Matthew 28:19...

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"

It's Tebow, Tebow
Gotta get down on Tebow
Everybody's Tebowing for the weekend, weekend
Tebowing, Tebowing, Yeah!
Tebowing, Tebowing, Yeah!
Tebow,Tebow
Tebow,Tebow
Tebowing for the weekend!

2011-12-15 10:02:43 AM
remember when all those mosques got burned after Tebow won the national championship twice?

2011-12-15 10:04:19 AM
To be fair, the guy's comments were that If Tebow wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful", that " ...emboldened faithful can do insane things... and that While America has become more inclusive since Jerry Falwell's first political forays, a Tebow triumph could set those efforts back considerably.

I'm not sure I agree with point 1. Point 2 is basically correct. Point 3, again, I just don't see a correlation between football and religious fervor.

Overall, I'd say that I disagree with this Rabbi (and frankly think he's kind of an idiot), but TFA's author is a bit of a douche for replacing "CAN" and "COULD" with "WILL".

Its a basic strawman from some asshat looking to get more hits on his worthless blog, and pretty much a non-story.

He's baptizing people? I'd say he's praying on the street corners instead of in his closet. Showing off your piety is the opposite of piety.

Live and let live? You understand that some of Christianity's fundamental beliefs are that: all other religions are false, All of their adherents deserve to be tortured for all eternity if they don't convert, and that it's their mission in life to, through conversion, eradicate all other religions and belief systems on the planet?

I'm ok with this. I'm a Vikings fan (to use the term loosely). Breesus is my fantasy quarterback. He could set the single game passing record on Sunday against the Vikings and their utter lack of a secondary.

Not to worry, rabbi.

Rogers and my Green Bay Packers have got this one.

GO PACK!
