Date/Time: TBD

If I wasn't on the other side of the country, I'd come.

2011-12-14 11:13:45 PM
I feel like there have been, like, three or four LA Fark Parties in the past month or two. I may just be insane, I don't know.

2011-12-14 11:18:14 PM
awwww, damn, I would love to meet you two.

2011-12-14 11:30:46 PM
I'm washing my hair that night.

Me?

If I weren't terrified of flying and someone promised to put out I might go... no, I still wouldn't set foot in LA.

2011-12-14 11:56:42 PM
Trust me, I'd rather be at an LA Fark party then dealing with holiday BS.

I'll get drunk in your honor.

Where you at? I forget? I wanna say Utah, but maybe I'm misremormoning.

Still trying to get through the recent passing of my wife... so please excuse me from attending, but I wish all my L.A. Area TFers a Happy Holiday and a Safe New Year.

Sweet crap, I'm sorry to hear about that. Hope you've got good friends and family around for the holidays. Sending good mojo your way.

This will be the saddest sausage party ever. Bring your yarmulke and some Chinese.

I'm in. I might even go if it's in the Valley.

Catymogo1: Trust me, I'd rather be at an LA Fark party then dealing with holiday BS.

This. There's a reason I go home for Thanksgiving and not Christmas. Love food, hate buying people stupid shiat.

2011-12-15 12:54:14 AM
Which is also why I didn't participate in TFSS. Jesus, that's like taking the worst thing about Christmas and amplifying it 100 times.

2011-12-15 02:00:09 AM
I'll be in L.A. Xmas eve, but I'm gonna have family stuff to deal with, so I'll have to pass. But I hope you're able to get something together, and I hope it's fun.

Looking for a decent gastropub that will be open Christmas Eve. Any ideas?

I'll be at the Chase Tap Room in Lexington instead drinking on Drew's dime, sorry :)

Not really; don't hang out at bars much, and definitely not any near LAX. I can name a few bars in El Segundo and/or Santa Monica and/or Downtown Los Angeles that look good from the street.

Bugger. I hate to be the one holding this up if there's a better place farther from the airport. My flight gets into LAX at 6pm, it turns out, so if any locals can give me advice on getting to the place using local transit, that's awesome- I'm more concerned about getting back to the airport afterward. I'm flying out at 6am, and I don't know what sort of transportation to LAX is gonna be available at 3-4 in the morning.

You're pretty much stuck with taxis or hitchhiking, then. It's doable (although kind of a pain) to use public transit at LAX, but nothing I know of runs at 3 am.

As for possible locations, Rock and Brews looks pretty cool; it's in El Segundo about a mile south of LAX. (It's actually feasible to walk there from LAX. It'd be about six miles since you have to walk around the airport, but it could be done.) I don't know their Christmas Eve hours yet, just sent them a mail. It doesn't seem like there'll be a big turnout for this one so might not even need a reservation.

Unfortunately, Rock and Brews is closed for renovation on Dec 23. Therefore, I recommend Britannia Pub in Santa Monica, which is open Christmas Eve till 1:30 am. I don't think a reservation is necessary considering the lack of interest so far, though maybe it'll pick up if we have a time and place set.

Fair_Poopsmith: Big Blue Bus line 3 will take you straight to this pub from the airport (well, the airport transit center). It doesn't run after midnight, though.

Hrm. How far is the place? I'd just have to figure out how to get back to the airport by like 3:30-4am.

If it's going to be that much trouble to get around LA, and since no one else apart from TehDotCommunist and me are interested, I'd say we ought to just meet at one of the hotels adjacent to airport. Believe it or not, you can walk right out of LAX onto the streets (just walk out the lower level of Terminal 1, take a left, and you're on Century Boulevard). There are a few hotels on Century Boulevard and there's probably a decent bar or restaurant in one of them, and they'd be likely open on Christmas Eve since they are in hotels. Thoughts?

I'm down for whatever, just not trying to pay out the ass for a hotel. I'll probably grab dinner before then, so I'm not even too worried about the food side. However, Fair_Poopsmith will be coming off a long flight and would probably welcome some decent chow.

Sorry my layover's making it a hassle. I can imagine I'll want some food, but I'm not gonna be picky. If i can get some tacos or something nearby after 2 years in Japan, that's a big win. In about 30 hours or so, I'll be starting the first leg of my trip and will be incommunicado- I'll probably be able to check my email when I get to LAX- if one of you wants to EIP me a phone number, I can give you a ring when I land. Anywhere's okay by me, and if it turns out to be a bust, that's fine too. Just hoped to at least enjoy my Christmas Eve a little bit, and boozy company goes a long way.

Well, I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I am really not the right person to be suggesting these things. It's just not typical; I really don't hit bars a lot.

Nevertheless, let me throw out one more suggestion: Melody's Bar and Grill, which is definitely within walking distance from the airport, and, like I said, you can walk right into the terminals from the street.

It's easily within walking distance of the Airport (looks like it's a bit less than a mile).

It gets good reviews.

And, if for some reason it doesn't work out, farking In N Out is across the street.

There's one thing that does run to LAX 24 hours: the Flyaway bus. That only helps if you want to go to Union Station, Van Nuys, or maybe Westwood though.

2011-12-22 06:46:30 PM
Walking around the neighborhood of LAX late at night doesn't sound like a great idea. If it is adjacent, sure maybe. Otherwise take a cab.

/If this is still on, I will try to be there too but can't promise

I might just be in if it isn't too far. In laws in town and whatnot...

I can probably go; I have a room on Sunset Blvd. that night already.

I dig the Melody's idea. Can anyone in CA give them a call and see if they'll be open or if we'd need a reservation?

Also, got your number- when I land (around 6:30 or so on the 24th) I'll give you a ring.

Also, holy damn, I haven't had In N Out since I was 14.

Hmmm.. Not open Christmas, I wonder if that means they'd close early on the eve of... I'm up for anything, really- I'll keep tabs on this list and hit up Aerojockey when I get into LA.

Whatchoo gonna do about it?

well i will toast one with you guys even though i can't make it to Cali. I also want to thank unfreakable for the month of TF. Totally unexpected and it answers the question, what do you get for the person who is hard to buy a gift for?
thanks for the early Christmas present. Hopefully next Thursday, I will pass my CDL drivers test and then there will always be the chance I might be in town when there is a Fark party.

If Melody's doesn't work out, the Flyaway might be an option - it's an express bus to downtown. Specifically to Union Station, but from there you can take the subway to any number of cool downtown or Hollywood spots. From Union Station, it runs 24 hours - every half-hour most times except from about midnight to 5AM, when it runs once an hour.

I'd join the party but, you know, I should probably stay with my little family. It's just me, the wife, and the little guy, so reducing the numbers by a third probably isn't cool.

7 Grand in downtown LA. Lots of $5 parking around. No idea how late they may go that evening.

Oh motherfarking farkshiat. I'll be out of town.

I've nothing to do on the Eve. I'd like to stop for a bit.

The only people who don't have "plans" for Christmas Eve must be pretty lonely people. No friends, family? They probably eat leftovers and go to bed to await the ghost of Christmas past.

Dunno. For my part, it's a 12-hour stop on my way to see family in Colorado. Some peoples' families work weird hours. Life happens.

And leftovers are awesome.
