That is a horrendous photo of her. I'm at work and I'm not going to go searching right now, but Amber Heard is way hotter than that.

She is a bit on her high horse right now.

It is easy for incredibly beautiful women to come out as gay in Hollywood. She starts going away from the lipstick lezzer look and gets a butch haircut and eschews the makeup, watch the roles dry up.

I know Hollywood isn't kind to gays. However, as long as she's prepared to get naked for most of the movies she does, I really see Hollywood forgiving her some hobbyist muff munching.

Pretty sure any actress that made those changes to her appearance, regardless of their sexual orientation, would find themselves out of work. Most people don't find that look attractive and as an actor, appearance is so important that sometimes stars will have to get approval for any kind of drastic change.

She's actually only ever said that she doesn't like labels. Considering that she's never actually been seen dating any men, I'm going to wager that she probably is a lesbian and just decided it's better for her career if people call her bisexual because actresses call themselves bisexual all the time to get attention.

So, sorry, you probably don't have a chance.

Old and British. there's a few of them out there. They get a pass because they're usually better trained character actors. As for the Tom Cruise suggestion, if he is gay, there's a reason he's married with a kid. You don't get consistent headline gigs if you're openly gay. You'll get work, but don't order the Lear jet after announcing being gay.

Tom Hulce, Anne Heche, etc. Watch Zachary Quinto fall of the map too.

Neil Patrick Harris is not an A-list star. His movie credentials are playing dress up as a Nazi and playing himself in stoner films. An example of an A-list star would be George Clooney.

An actual A-lister who is gay is Jodie Foster. Ellen could be an A-lister, but she really doesn't try. Elton John and Freddie Mercury are as close to A-list gay males as you can get

As for movie stars, the best I could find is Jodie Foster who, while never saying she was a big ole lesbo, did acknowledge her partner of so many years when she won a women in entertainment award.

In other news, HOLY shiat Jim Parsons is gay. I thought Johnny Galecki would be the queer from that show.

Wait what!? *checks Wikipedia* ...OK, Why on earth would some one be that closeted in this day and age? Particularly some one in her position? She has been at a point in her career where this shouldn't matter for literally decades now. That some 1950's s#@t right there & in the 21st century that's almost as bad as being psychotically anti-gay.

There's a fantastic bit in his autobiography where Barrowman talks about this dick he worked with in his cruise ship days who was convinced he was gods gift to acting, showed up for filming as one of the background dancers and mocked Barrowman for having the wrong hair color...until Barrowman got called in by the AD to start the filming for his solo. Barrowman said the guys look was priceless.

Jodie Foster only officially came out in 2007. What's she been in since? As for Ellen, NPH, etc. TV stars rarely break into Hollywood, and never if they're gay. You have to be a Clooney or a Bruce Willis to make the leap, and that's rare.

Hollywood has to be able to market stars as the kind of person that you can have sex with. That's why actresses often fall off the map. I reckon it's because Hollywood wants their stars to be symbols of virility or fertility. Julie in Wisconsin isn't going to dream about getting knocked up by Tom Cruise if he's saying how fabulous his life is.

Really? You actually thought Jim Parsons didn't smoke pole? Have you ever seen him in an interview? If a fictional character was depicted as "affected" as Parsons is in real life, GLADD would decry it as grossly insulting and perpetuating a hurtful stereotype.

Yea, she can basically do whatever she wants at this point. She did her Demi Moore women-can-kick-as-much-as-a-man movie, she's got her side projects, she's been nominated for awards a good number of times, etc. Plus, everyone knew she was a rug muncher for quite a while, and it never hurt her marketability.

2011-12-15 12:11:13 AM
Personally I think Amer Heard is only pretending to be gay in order to get attention. Her resume isn't stellar. She needs to separate herself from the rest of the attractive blondes that stampede through California every year.

I don't think being gay is a career killer entirely. I just think you'd better have some acting chops to back up your looks if you do come out. The prime drama roles are thin on the ground in the States.

Which nobody went to see. Partly because she isn't a draw anymore, but mostly because Mel Gibson elbow deep in a rodent is just silly. She was on the way out anyway. She'll get roles, and decent ones too, but she's not going to get a blockbuster lead again. Mostly because she's 50 or thereabouts and not as marketable as once upon a time.

Anyway, if Tom Cruise is gay, he would have felt safe to come out unless he thought Hollywood would reject him. Rock Hudson knew that too.

davynelson: coming out as gay = brave

Except that she's actually never said that she was bisexual, that's the Daily Mail's headline saying that. She's never actually been seen dating any guys, only dating women. The only thing she's actually said is that she "doesn't like labels", which is generally what people say when they don't want to lie but at the same time aren't ready to actually have to say the words "I'm gay".

People who say, "I don't like labels" and aren't saying it because they don't want to say "I'm gay" generally have some sort of obnoxiously long spiel after that which usually includes things like, "I only see people" and "reject the gender binary".

Peter Gibbons: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?

If you prefer women, you're straight. If you do both on a consistent basis, you're a confused gay person. I don't believe in this 'bisexual' talk...I know gay people and I know straight people. To me, bisexuality is a term used for confused homosexuals hanging onto their idea of 'normal'. I'm sure if you ask any bisexual person which sex they prefer, they aren't 50/50.

i read a study on this situation, actually.

the researched showed various porn to groups of people, hetero, homo, and professed bi.

all of them showed sexual excitement to only set. homo was excited by homo. hetero by hetero, and bi... well, professed bi people still only showed excitement to one type, but not both.

yep, true "bisexuality" is a myth. there are people WILLING to have sex with either men or women, but they truly do have a preference.

I dont think it matters so much if hollywood thinks you are gay or straight. I think it is the people that see the films and TV shows the actors are on. I dont think a lot of studio execs want FoF or one of the million groups like them boycotting the movies or TV shows they make. They dont want to lose the money so it may not be a personal thing but a money thing.

The question is, who defines the word "bisexual"? Does it have to mean exactly 50/50? Why can't it mean "open to both," since it still differentiates between homo and heterosexual, who stick exclusively to one or the other?

This discussion is exactly why a lot of people go the cop-out "I don't like labels" route, not because they're embarrassed to admit who they are, but because the labels cause confusion and don't accurately describe all the possible grey areas of sexuality.

You're confusing the actor with his role in Priscilla Queen of the Dessert.

Actually, in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hugo Weaving's character is a professional drag queen but not homosexual. The fact that he is married is a major part of the plot.

I thought it was implied that his character and the wife were both bisexual. That his character was married doesn't automatically mean the character was supposed to be read as straight, especially because his kid asks him if he'll have a boyfriend when they get back to Sydney and he answers "maybe".

Nihilist's Guide to Reticent Entropy: ihatedumbpeople: GameSprocket: ihatedumbpeople: Having been with a man a few times in the past doesn't make you bi, she's gay, plain and simple.

What if you are a dude who has been with a man a few times in the past?

If you prefer women, you're straight. If you do both on a consistent basis, you're a confused gay person. I don't believe in this 'bisexual' talk...I know gay people and I know straight people. To me, bisexuality is a term used for confused homosexuals hanging onto their idea of 'normal'. I'm sure if you ask any bisexual person which sex they prefer, they aren't 50/50.

Which do you prefer? Meat or vegetables?

If you prefer meat, you're a carnivore. If you eat both on a consistent basis, you're a confused herbivore. I don't believe in all this 'omnivore' talk...I know vegetarians and I know meat-eaters. To me, omnivore is a term used for confused herbivores hanging onto their idea of 'normal'. I'm sure if you ask any omnivore which food they prefer, they aren't 50/50.

What about clam-eaters?

yep, true "bisexuality" is a myth. there are people WILLING to have sex with either men or women, but they truly do have a preference.

Yeah, we tend towards a preferred gender, but that doesn't mean I don't find myself with a hard on for a good looking man, or someone who can split the difference, like a nice "baby butch" chick, or a tranny(either gender), or...

"a stiff dick has no conscience" and sometimes really poor taste.

Stealing this line so hard.
