Was that a Mexican titty bar?

2011-12-14 05:52:27 PM
Kind of wish there were links to the original Street View coordinates to go along with these pictures.

The first one (crossroads) and next to last one could have been taken where I grew up.

The bar....is just disturbing.

The rest are pretty, I don't find them desolate at all.

But then, I hate most people.

Some of those are really beautiful.

Remove the road from the last one and it's basically Skyrim.

2011-12-14 05:59:32 PM
The first one looks like the area that Tom Hanks goes to to deliver the package at the end of Cast Away.

Hell no. She runs a bordello.

It would be nice if they had links to the original locations, but at least the images were well captioned.

I was thinking much the same... Apparently this person LOVES to maintain their bushes, but not their house.

Yea, it definitely looks like these are processed a lot more than your average Google Street View picture

The file names of the photos appear to have place names. That one contains "Valdeon", and the suffix "SP", apparently for Spain, specifically this region:

Looks pretty desolate.

The one with the trees in the fog reminds me of the first 15mins of my morning commute, but with less deer (and the road I drive is at least chip-n-seal).

/hates people as well

Ringling ringling slippin' away
Only forty people livin' there today
Streets are dusty and the bank has been torn down
It's a dyin' little town

Church windows broken that place ain't been used in years
Jail don't have a sheriff or a cell
And electric trains they run by maybe once or twice a month
Easin' it on down to Mussel Shell

Ringling ringling slippin' away
Only forty people livin' there today
'Cause the streets are dusty and the bank had been torn down
It's a dyin' little town

And across from the bar there's a pile of beer cans
Been there twenty-seven years
Imagine all the heartaches and tears
In twenty-seven years of beer

So we hopped back in the rental car and we hit the cruise control
Pretty soon the town was out of sight
Tho we left behind a fat barmaid a cowboy and a dog
Racin' for a Ringling Friday night

/one of JB's 'Montana' songs
/actually have been there

Wow, I didn't notice that until you posted it. Nice organic grid pattern there.

Do you really wanna be that one guy who t-bones the only other person using that road? You'd have to wait 3 days for the cop to show up to write the incident report. Better to just stick the sign there and be done with it.

While plenty of our glimpses might have been a tad dry, Aaron Hobson has spent hours scouring the archives to find the most beautiful shots out there. While he might have manipulated them slightly, the photographs speak for themselves.

Slightly?! Slightly?!?!

No, sir, A LOT.

But they are gorgeous!

/Reminds me of the photographs on interfacelift.com

Why the stop signs?

I think those are train tracks. The train always has the right of way, so heed the warning. Notice the stop signs are on both sides of the tracks, not at the gravel intersection.

I kind of like the scenes from Dalton Highway going to Deadhorse, AK. Long stretch of nothing in sight... But at some points you can see that there was company, that there were at least two Google cars making the trip together.

I'll look for it. Maybe they do this in all remote areas? How about the Australian Outback?

I wouldn't mind taking a week off from work and then driving a Google car around some desolate areas... Screw the cities, the traffic will drive you crazy. Just load up the MP3 player, gas up the Google car and off I go.

The bushes are a little out of place.

That isn't out of place at all in Silent Hill, or any other horror video game town.

Not to throw water on this guy's hobby, but if it is on Google Streetview it is not isolated, desolate, and forlorn, no matter what it looks like. I don't think those words mean what he thinks they mean.
