No wonder you can't fly...you have to take better care of your feathers.

2011-12-14 10:46:29 AM
That was actually horrifying.

2011-12-14 10:55:15 AM
Were those anklets I saw around the owls legs?

2011-12-14 11:01:24 AM
The owl is thinking "Big f*cking rabbit! Can I fly away with this?"

Bob_Laublaw: The owl is thinking "Big f*cking rabbit! Can I fly away with this?"

that was weird. those are two animals who would never interact, yet only the owl is curious. i guess owls are more of a predator than domesticated dogs.

I think the owl thought the dog's hair strands were worms or something.

I would have been afraid for the dog's eyes.

He wants paying.

That probably has a lot to do with the temperament of that particular dog.

Totally bizarre. My dog would have gone after that owl immediately to use it as a chew toy. The body language of the dog in the video was very avoidant/submissive.

The owl looks like it was sizing up the dog to see if it could take the dog home as a snack.

The dog looks like it couldn't have cared less about the owl and just wanted to nap.

Anyway at 10:30 the other night, I go out into my yard and there's the Werzner kid looking up in the tree.

But Bill Jr., he was a daredevil, just like his old man.

It could have been worse for the dog...that could have been a kakapo on his head.

Can't get it to play, I guess because of adblock. Presume this is the Youtube video for it.

Yes, that's it.

I was thinking the owl wanted to snatch some of that fur for a nest...it kept clutching at the dogs long fur like it was thinking, "Damn, that'd really keep the misses warm this winter..."

I had a "pet" horned owl for awhile. Mom set up a nest in my old barn and one day stopping coming home. After a few days I went up and got the hatchling. None of the local rescue services wanted it (lack of funding or something and it isn't considered threatened). So ended up feeding the hatchling. Since she lacked hunting instincts or the like we'd feed her. I set up a nest for her in the barn and would clean out the crap ever so often.

She'd sit there on the railing of my deck at night when I went sat out there to drink. Dogs flopped down on the floor of the deck, owl on the railing. This went on for 9 years until one day she was never seen again. The kids could touch her if they wanted and she'd recognize us (swoop over and walk along on the ground beside us). Sometimes she'd sit on top of the mailbox and then fly along behind the car when we drove up the driveway

It was a sweet deal because she developed just enough of a hunting instinct to fly from the barn to the garden and nail whatever rodent was eating our veggies. She also ended up as active more during the day, likely because that was when we were active.

James!: That was actually horrifying.

Seconded.

Is it just me or is that a young owl and an old dog? One doesn't know any better and the other does.

I think it's a baby owl, still has the down. I was waiting for it to take a tear out of that dogs ear. Ear jerky!

We prefer the term "developmentally challenged" rather than "has the Down."

WTF???
That German Wirehaired Pointer did not even care about that bird?
Our GWP would have gone after that Owl in a heartbeat like it was a pheasant. He would have gotten beat up pretty bad and it would have been a good fight and I think that he would have won that one. But it was a big bird! He did get a hold of a huge turkey and took it down while we were out hunting last year.

2011-12-14 07:11:04 PM
I'm guessing that's a juvenile owl thinking the dog is the biggest farking mouse evah.

2011-12-14 07:44:09 PM
You are confusing "petting" with "tasting".

Kinda hard to tell where the dog ends and the owl begins.

First thing I thought of was that the owl probably had a chihuahua last week and was trying to figure out how to get this one up to the tree.

That owl isn't what it seems.

Most likely because that owl is a pet and the dog understands that his owner doesn't want him messing with it. Same reason that my pit bull won't eat my kitten. Your kitten? That's a different story.

That was the ugliest farking owl pecking at the ugliest farking dog for 2+ minutes of boring nothingness.

Nope. Didn't watch it. As soon as the commercial came on, click went the browser.

Aww.

Interesting things like this happen around humans. i doubt something like this would happen with a wolf and an owl. i think it's because the pet animal feels well fed and secure.

An owl that size can ruin your dog or cat's day in the blink of an eye the owl just pecked out. Don't fark with owls.

Owl: Why are your feathers all weird?
Dog: Not feathers, fur
Owl: that's weird
Dog: We go through this every day
Owl: (touching ear) What's wrong with your wing?
Dog: Not wing, ear
Owl: It's so....small...and it's all floppy, is it broken?
Dog: No, it's just like that
Owl: How do you fly with that?
Dog: (sigh)
Owl: It's in a weird spot, so close to your eye...how do you fly?
Dog: I don't
Owl: Bummer....why are your feathers like that?
Dog: Not feath....never mind
