The whole slimey thing spooks voters also. Imagine Newt out on the prowl for new wives. Sorry about your mental images.

The GOP couldn't find a less likable candidate if they decided to pull Cheney out of his hole and ran him.

My god is this what passes for news in america? The guy speaks to the viewers as though they were children, speaking slowly, repeating and using simplistic analogies alongside comedic sound effects.

See it's not important that Newt got blowjobs and cheated on his wife, it's important that he loved his country so much he had to chastise Bill Clinton for the same thing.

Morning television news is suppose to be "wacky" in this country. Don't ask me why.

The only reason Newt surged into the new front runner position was because the media informed us that is what happened. I don't think anybody really likes that scumbag. Like the last election the GOP candidate will be Obama.

Da most liberal president eva!

Independents are running away from Newt like rats from a sinking ship.

I'm not sure that analogy makes a whole lot of sense. I mean, where are the rats going to run to? Into the water? It would seem that is what they would be trying to get away from if they were running from a sinking ship.

Rats can swim, you know. You don't want to stay on the ship because, if they're below deck or near an opening, they can be trapped by rushing water and pulled under. It's just a well-documented phenomenon that as old ships would sink the rats would all suddenly appear in the water swimming away. And what's a more disgusting, lowly creature than a rat? This, contrasted against the captain of the ship who will stand at the wheel until it sinks. It's a great metaphor.

This is not really news.

For years it has been known that just the sight of Newts face turns off a large chunk of the non-right wing portion of the country.

He really is toxic. It's that old right wing in your face style of his that plays real well on moran AM radio but fails outside that.

A political philosophy based on "pissing off liberals" may not piss off the independents but it does seem to make them distrustful.

I was just being snarky. But really, how far can a rat swim anyway? If that ship went down in the north Atlantic, I don't think many of those rats would make it to Greenland!

Very few people have accused rats of thinking that far ahead.

I heard from the internet that rats can swim a 1/2 mile in open sea and can tread water for 3 days. I would figure if any ship were sinking, rescue ships would be along to pick up survivors shortly thereafter. The rats would just hop on board that new shup. It makes you wonder how many rats actually survived shipwrecks over the years...Pretty resourceful animals!

I'll just leave this here:

I've talked to all the other candidates and none of them gave me the vibe that Gingrich did. He is not a guy you want to go have a beer with," - Judd Saul, a Tea Party member and GOP activist from Black Hawk County.

As much as we all dislike Newt, this still depresses me. For many people "confidence" and "conviction" mean acting like a revival preacher who exudes bravado heedless of whether or not it's justified.

/ Which also explains why Herman Cain was popular for a while

I think the idea is that they head for things that are floating. Debris and all that.

There's a reason rats are everywhere humans are. They are, like us, extremely adaptable generalists who are a very good at a lot of different survival strategies, and can eat nearly anything they come cross. Damn smart for a rodent, as well, they have considerable problem solving skills compared to other small mammals. The odds are good that the rats as a species will outlive us.

And for all those reasons, they also make surprisingly good pets, much more personable and friendly than a hamster or gerbil.

This is what I thought of when I read the headline. Last time, I think we at least liked our candidates. This time we're all basically choosing between two people we can't stand, much more so than last election.

Newt's the smartest guy in the room and he goes out of his way to make sure that everyone knows that he's the smartest guy in the room.

Actually, Newt's thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and he goes out of his way to make sure that everyone knows that he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room.

Which is why everybody who's ever spent any time trying to work with him thinks he's an arrogant ignorant jackass.

Newt = four years of far right ideology if he gets elected.

Romney = four years of reasonable compromise to accomplish conservative and progressive goals alike.

If the Republicans nominate Newt, I'll be furious. I'll pull my own hair out, chew it up, and spit it on some Republicans.

Let's hope conservatives have the common sense to make the right choice in Iowa. Newt CANNOT win the Republican nomination.

2011-12-14 12:16:59 PM
I think the strategy here is to desensitize the American public with an endless stream of batshiat crazy candidates, so far out there that when they finally do roll out Romney, he looks normal by comparison. And Americans being what they are, they will undoubtedly fall for it.

What most of the far right fails to understand is WHY Obama is so damn unpopular-- it's because he acts way too much like a freaking Republican-- at least one fom the late 80's /early 90's before they all went batshiat insane.

Just look at the guy's record-- Renewing the patriot act, extending the disasterous Bush tax cuts, refusing to address the war crimes/human rights violations of the last administration, signing into law a piss-poor health care "reform" act nearly identical to what the republicans pushed for in the '90s, failing to even try to go after the bankers that raped our economy and lot us with over 9% unemployment, blindly pushing on with the obviously failed war on drugs...

The list goes on and on. Face it, Obama is Reagan with a dark tan and additional smarts.

At least he's a mature, sane, grown up. Just look at the Republican frontrunners. Holy shiat! I'm deeply horrified that tens of millions of American voters take these retarded clowns seriously.

Obama WILL win his second term, not because of people voting FOR him but because of people voting AGAINST the Republican.

FARK this broken and corrupt political system of ours. I want to vote FOR somebody, not AGAINST some total sociopath.

2011-12-14 12:23:19 PM
Only poll that matters is the general election, and I for one am fairly certain Obama will win, even if he had a zero approval rating the day before.

/he had no problem arranging the murders of federal agents for gun control propaganda
//he'll have no problem doing in reality any of the things his constituents fantasized Dubya Bush doing to stay in office

He didn't get that impression from Romney? Every time I've seen him attempt to talk to voters one on one or in a restaurant he always seems to be just barely disguising his discomfort at being there and just saying what he thinks a candidate should say to normal people.
