Maybe I'm just getting old but I don't like this whole "cloud" business.

Heh, heh...no really, I don't like it.

I agree, I don't want my files on some third party server who can then mine it for demographic information. It is amazing the privacy people will give up.

This will work on my KIN phone, right? Plays for sure! Even on my Zune?

...or change the content of said files without my knowledge. I'm hardly a technophobe. I'm a software developer and FX editor. I just don't see the advantage of having all my shiat in some unknown server somewhere.

I am a demographic outlier on most of the parameters I can think of. If they want to fark up their data with my sample, they can be my guest.

It depends on the files. If it is something like homework for school where you can get to them from basically anywhere and they are backed up so the dog can't get to it then maybe it would be useful.

Apple's super-soaraway mobile.

Huh? Listen, if your airways are super-sore, stop talking on the phone so much.

/what language was the article written in?

afaik both Amazons and Microsofts cloud platforms enable you to store blobs of data that they have no way of interpreting. You could double rot13 encrypt it, and by a $10 wrench proof hat, and then no one could get to your data.

Pretty much this - having written a number of cloud applications and as someone who has almost a TB of files stored in the cloud, the naysayers basically have no understanding of the security and arch. If 128bit encryption isn't good enough for their hypothetical boogeyman scenario, might as well give up on online banking too...

Hate on Microsoft if you want, but SkyDrive is pretty cool. 25 GB in the cloud for free is sweet.

If you are not paying for it, you are not the customer. You are the product.

Further reality Apple's iCloud is based off of Microsoft's Azure. If Microsoft kills it, it would literally be suicide

In this case I think this may be a loss leader

I understand security, oh condescending one. It's not the security (which is hardly foolproof, as if they would treat your video library with the same care as your financial records) I just hope that the option of having hard-copy of your shiat (without jumping through hoops) won't disappear.
