It's going to be a weird election if Obama wins South Carolina but loses Ohio.

2011-12-14 08:19:28 AM
i remember how hard fox was pushing this angle back in 08 too.

2011-12-14 08:21:37 AM
that's weird - another poll had him leading both gingrich and romney in south carolina, of all places. now, the current frontrunner is gingrich. is this really what the poll says? or is it matched with a generic republican frontrunner?

2011-12-14 08:41:35 AM
It's nice to know that since I don't live in a swing state my vote is absolutely worthless.

2011-12-14 08:51:29 AM
Whatever helps you guys sleep at night. Just keep telling yourselves that the Republican field is the strongest in the history of the world's history of Jebus and killers of the socialismists.

Just make sure you vote for the guy with the flag pins, okay?

FOX got a look at the actual numbers and hit the push poll phone bank, stat

Is this the same poll where they mistook Utah for Nevada?

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Is this the same poll where they mistook Utah for Nevada?

I think it's the one where they claimed that 8.6>9.

Guess we'll see how it all sorts out next November...

This morning they were showing a stat claiming democrats were in trouble because a poll showed voters leaning democrat had dropped 5%... The margin of error was +/- 4%.

That's the "fair and balanced" coverage I've come to expect from the knuckleheads at FOX News.

Fox News on Gallup Poll: "In the dozen swing states where voters will decide the 2012 presidential election, a new Gallup/USA Today poll shows President Obama losing to the current Republican frontrunners by significant margins."

Gallup on Gallup Poll: "Romney, Gingrich Have Slight Edge Over Obama in Swing States
Nationally, Obama tied with Romney, slightly ahead of Gingrich"

The election is still 11 months away.

2011-12-14 09:45:14 AM
make me some tea: The election is still 11 months away.

It's going to be a very long 11 months.

2011-12-14 09:45:21 AM
The only significant margin is the one Romney has over Obama in swing states. The difference between Gingrich's & Obama's numbers is less than the margin of error and so, by definition, insignificant.

Among national registered voters, the Romney and Obama are statistically tied, while Gingrich loses handily.

Once again, count on Faux News to misinform.

No shiat. I'm almost ready to shave my head and move into an ashram in India until the end of October.

I still can't believe that there is anyone who likes Romney. I can see why the crazy Christian Right likes some of the other candidates, but Romney seems to have no appeal for crazy or sane people.

2011-12-14 09:52:43 AM
I want some of their pot.

Fox News polls are 100% accurate and they make predictions that always come true. I trust Fox News. They have shown fairness to President Obama and have lived up to their standard as Fair and Balanced.

Therefore, since this poll is showing that Obama is losing, I shall be voting for Gingrich.

Even with all of the protesting in Madison last year and the recalls of Republicans across the state, Wisconsin is still looking to go Republican. Democracy doesn't work.

Ambiguity is ambiguous.

Obama is going to lose by at least -20%.

I think his loss will be closer to -10%.

It is the economy, stupid.

2011-12-14 09:57:54 AM
And yesterday there was a poll showing him winning, and tomorrow there will be a poll showing him in a dead heat, and the day after that he will be winning again.

Anyone who says right now that Obama is going to win or that he's going to lose should be dismissed.

2011-12-14 09:58:05 AM
Ugh, and lets not even get in to the nonsense of these polls.

"we called 100 people on a landline, at 3pm on a tuesday, a year before the actuall election and they said X. Therefore everyone thinks X and X will happen."

the methodology behind the politicals polls would be perfect if this was 1950. Heck, i'd still put some stock in it if it were 1980. but 2011? come on

2011-12-14 09:58:05 AM
LouDobbsAwaaaay: Landline poll? Yeah, let me know how that works out for you.

They took out advertising time during Donahue to show a call-in number that provided a 20% off coupon for an insulin pump if the callers agreed to take the poll. I don't see how you can call that biased.

2011-12-14 09:58:28 AM
Polls only matter when they support your candidate. What would the be reporting if Obama was up 5%?

2011-12-14 09:58:37 AM
I'm sure this will thrill the pollster's wife, Morgan Fairchild.

what I don't get is why.? What have any of those clowns done that makes then fit for the office?

Not when the Republicans control all three branches, the DA's office, and the computers that count the votes. Seriously, we had open ballot bags in the last election and the AD didn't even investigate. It's corruption at its most blatant, yet nothing ever happens.

He's the vanilla pudding of GOP candidates.

(that's actually a callback to the last time we were discussing vanilla pudding in a politics thread oh god)

There is no way in hell it goes Republican in the presidential race. None.

Why would he need to investigate? His side won, so all is obviously on the up-and-up.

LouDobbsAwaaaay: Landline poll? Yeah, let me know how that works out for you.

Uh, no. Here's the methodology of the poll:

"Interviews are conducted with respondents on landline telephones and cellular phones, with interviews conducted in Spanish for respondents who are primarily Spanish-speaking. Each daily sample of 1,000 national adults includes a minimum quota of 400 cell phone respondents and 600 landline respondents, with additional minimum quotas among landline respondents by region. Landline numbers are chosen at random among listed telephone numbers, cell phone numbers are selected using random-digit dial methods. Landline respondents are chosen at random within each household on the basis of which member had the most recent birthday."

No link to the actual poll results? Gee, thanks Fox. The way that article is written, it seems as if the results are a combined poll number from those states which is pretty meaningless from an Electoral College perspective. I mean, he could have lost 4 of those states by wide margins and won the other 8. Did I read TFA wrong?

No, that is actually how the poll was conducted. The swing state respondents are pooled and not broken down.

After their own poll showed Obama beating both by wide margins, and the South Carolina thing, they need something they can spin.

This.

Something is seriously wrong with a country that would give a stupid, backward fark like Newt Gingrich a fighting chance.
