I saw it in the theatre and hated it, but then I caught it again on tv last month and I was more 'meh'.

It wasn't as god-awful as I remember it, although my original dislike might have been affected by the most watered-down coke in history.

It wasn't nearly as good as the remake of Casino Royale, but try comparing it to some of the utter steaming piles of sh*t the franchise has turned out and it's pretty good.

I definitely like more realism, and less women with stupid names and giant space lasers.

I still haven't seen most of the old ones, so I can't compare. The ones I've seen were with Connery and Dalton, the only one I saw with Roger Moore had the final climactic battle take place on a blimp, and had a black woman who looked like she could hand Moore his ass on an off day. I was thoroughly not impressed.

I just really loved Casino Royale and Quantum was such a let down. Not the worst movie I've seen though, by far. Seeing as they essentially had no script, I guess I'll give it a break.

What, like Agent Strawberry Fields?

I liked it. It was very entertaining.

Ahhh....Casino Royale 2: Quantum Of Dour. What a colossal disappointment.

/Sequels rarely work for this franchise.

Quantum of Solace wasn't a life changing movie, but I would watch it again. And again. I just love Daniel Craig as Bond...and I never thought I'd really like Bond. Plus, his Bond girls are the best.

For Bond purest Craigs portrayal comes closest to Flemings intent. You will also note also that both Casino Royal and Quantum kept the gadgets to a minimum. Dench continues to play a very good M.

Throw me in with the people who liked it. It wasn't on par with Casino Royale, but it was still a pretty decent action flick. The plot was a little out there, but I still prefer realistic villains trying to take over the world with economics and resource control rather than building a giant laser that will kill everyone not living in some underwater dome.

2011-12-14 10:32:01 AM
I hated Quantum the first time I saw it but after a re-watch last week I changed my mind. It's still a very average movie but it is an enjoyable enough Bond film.

i rather like sociopath bond. casino royale was great (loved the villain). quantum of solice wasn't nearly as good but it wasn't that bad.

plus i have a man crush on daniel craig.

Dalton in The Living Daylights seemed spot on to me, although I could do without seeing Bond in a Members Only jacket.

I liked both films.

As far as stupid names, Le Chiffre means 'the number.' Kind of stupid for a guy playing an accountant of sorts.

Quantum of Solace really and truly sucked. One of the worst Bond movies ever. But the thing about Daniel Craig is that he's always trying to improve as an actor. So you can bet that this next Bond outing will be better than the last.

That would be Grace Jones playing May Day in A View To A Kill.

and yes, she could hand Roger Moore his arse on pretty much any day after he turned fifty and the posh dinners really started to kick in.

She almost killed him filming the sex scene.

However, if you were paying attention at the end you would noted that she actually changes sides when Christopher Walken drowns her girlfriends.

/Dammit. Now I have to go and listen to Duran Duran and try and tell myself I'm not old.

It's funny, I'm the complete opposite. I grew up on the older bonds, and all the fun came out of the ridiculousness of most of the movies. I really dislike the new Bond movies in regards to Bond canon. As an action movie, I thought Casino Royale was great. But I went in looking for a Bond movie, and was sorely disappointed.

Quantum just sucked, period.

In that order. Dont blame the writers - no one shouldve filmed this trash

I didn't think it was great, but I've never understood the extent of people's rage over the film. It was average. In a world with Transformers 2 and 3, we're going to biatch about Quantum of Solace? Really?

2011-12-14 10:49:11 AM
People, we're talking about a franchise that handed us such Steaming piles as Moonraker, The World is not Enough, Octopussy, Die Another Day and Never Say Never Again (not Bond Canon, but still).

Quantum of Solace was just fine. Not a spectacular Bond movie, but, as a 90 minutes 3rd act to Casino Royale, it was great.

2011-12-14 10:52:43 AM
You darn kids!

I grew up watching/reading Bond. Connery RULED as being as close to Fleming's character as he was allowed. And don't blame Hollywood for the cheesy Bond girl names. Blame Fleming for that!

From a movie point of view the best Bond was Connery - duh. From a book point of view Craig nailed it. QOS did not suck. It was not the worst Bond movie ever (any one of the Moore movies holds that title - except Live and Let Die). It was not the best (Dr. No, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service), but it was a good second run for Craig.

2011-12-14 10:53:52 AM
I think the reason I like Casino Royale so much, and truly dislike Quantum of Solace, is the former nicely let the audience wonder what was 'actually' going on, who the 'real' bad guys were, and even in the end things really weren't resolved. The latter did not, at least not to me.

Then I go watch Golden Eye.

2011-12-14 10:58:20 AM
The only thing good about casino royale was woody allen throwing the exploding cigarette and shouting "so long, suckers!"

2011-12-14 11:00:03 AM
I loved Quantum of Solace... Then again, I love every Bond movie. So I really dont care. It wasnt bad to me in any way. And I really enjoyed the revenge drivin Bond into the more Connery like Bond at the end.

I really enjoyed Quantum of Solace except the ending. I was disappointed when the cheesiness was taken to old Bond levels.

Nevertheless, Bond movies will always be a love affair for me.

2011-12-14 11:07:27 AM
The writing ever since Tomorrow Never Dies has been horrendous. The only thing we can fix is the directing and non-shaky-cam-i-ness. Which I hope Sam Mendes will accomplish.

/It still seems weird that Sam Mendes is doing a freaking Bond movie.
//But I hope it means it'll be awesome!

2011-12-14 11:12:25 AM
I liked Quantum of Solace. It has nothing in common with the Flemming story of the same naem but that wasn't even a proper bond story anyway.

I honestly like where they have gone with the last two bond films, they just need to tone down the shaky cam and bring back some of the humour and glamour from the older movies, I think they could strike a really good balance.

2011-12-14 11:14:43 AM
I've seen it twice, thought it was pretty good.

He's not blaming writers, he's blaming himself. "We couldn't employ a writer to finish it. There was me trying to rewrite scenes - and a writer I am not"

I agree they shouldn't have filmed it, but once the snowball starts to roll in Hollywood, there's no stopping it.

2011-12-14 11:40:11 AM
Did he just look at the holes in the script and write, "bad guys chase Bond" every time?

I liked the realism very much as well. After seeing "Casino Royale" and being blown away by it, I decided to try watching the older Bond movies and was sorely disappointed. I was turned off by the misogyny of Connery, the cheesiness of Moore ("Octopussy" has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life), Dalton and Brosnan were ok but it was all formula and fantasy, whereas "Casino Royale" was much more gritty and realistic. ""Quantum Of Solace" was OK, it could've and should've been better. I'm really looking forward to "Skyfall".

2011-12-14 11:45:52 AM
The article said Craig wrote parts of the script. It didn't say he was the one who was tasering the cameraman during every fight scene. Hence it's not really his fault the movie sucked six ways to Sunday.

Goldfinger's better than Dr. No. Both of them are a lot better than Diamonds are Forever, a judgement reflected in its relatively poor showing at the box office. In which field, of course... Thunderball was a notable success.

I'd say in those days, he was a muscular actor. With all the presence of someone like Cooper or Lancaster, but combined with a sly wit...To make him a formidable romantic lead, closer in that respect to Cary Grant.

2011-12-14 11:59:46 AM
Are you sure it wasn't the camera shake, the difficulty in following the action and the time when the camera would film an area that had nothing to do with the current action only to return to the action that had already moved on to a different location? The story did lack a flow since events didn't seem to make sense. I haven't seen a Bond movie since and likely will never watch one again they don't seem to be about plot uncovering and deception anymore, just go off and shoot someone who is being bad.

2011-12-14 12:06:46 PM
I really liked Casino Royale. QoS... well, let's just say I saw it on opening weekend in the theatre all excited. And that's about all I could tell you. I remembered being majorly disappointed, but I couldn't tell you even what the plot was or any of the major action sequences were. I remember virtually nothing about the movie. Which tells me it sucked so long and hard that the only possible explanation is that I blocked it out of my mind as thoroughly as one of Sandusky's charity kids.
