Yeah, that watch looks damn stupid, but I still choose a wristwatch over reaching into my pocket and pulling out a cellphone to find out the time.

gopher321: but I still choose a wristwatch over reaching into my pocket and pulling out a cellphone to find out the time.

Same here...or a pocket watch.

This individuality comes at a price: You'll have to put aside $90 to cover the cost.

Oh my gosh, 90 bucks!!!

I don't do much accessorizing, but if I'm dressing up for something, I do like to have a good quality timepiece on my arm.

Sybarite: I don't do much accessorizing, but if I'm dressing up for something, I do like to have a good quality timepiece on my arm.

Sucker...wasting your money on a watch when your phone does the same thing.

You know what else gets me? These people wasting money on stupid antiquated dress shoes. Crocs do the same damned thing. I mean, for a meeting or something. If I'm totes casual I'll just strap these perfectly good shopping bags to my feet. They do the same thing!

I always wear my cheap digital watch.

Firstly, I only carry a cell phone for work. When I'm around the house or out shopping/whatever I don't have it with me.

Secondly, it's so much faster and easier to glance at my wrist rather than pulling my phone from its holster, and turning on the display to see the time. I can also do it with my arms full or when my hands are busy doing other things (insert pervy joke here).

Having said all that, those watches are completely stupid.

2011-12-14 11:26:03 AM
I really don't like having to reach into my pocket to fish out a cell phone so I can know what time it is.

A wristwatch is MUCH more convenient...and elegant. All you have to do is glance down.

Reading over the thread, I see that I've just said the same thing that everybody else has.

I gave one to my husband on his first anniversary and he absolutely loves it. And it now makes buying presents easy every few years. "So, how do you like your new watch fob, honey?"

I had a gold one that I absolutely loved. Family heirloom. My grandfather and father both owned it. The fob had broken, though, so it was getting kind of embarrassing carrying it around with this old leather strap. Anyway, I needed money to buy a Christmas gift for my wife this year, so I ended up selling it. Got these beautiful tortoise-shell hair decs for her. She's got this super-long hair that's just gorgeous.

I hope she likes them. I wonder what she got for me.

iPhone, Otterbox case clipped to belt/pocket, face out and upside down. Hit the button, see the time.

I wear a watch. One with an analog dial. It's a much better visual representation of time than digital numbers, and I don't own a cellphone.

Closest I came to doing the whole "check cellphone to see time" thing is when I went out hunting this year and forgot my watch at home. Normally I have the display on my ham radio handheld display frequency and battery voltage, but I changed it to frequency and current time so I would know when to start walking out of the woods.

For most people watches are jewelry. Clock on your phone, on your computer, in your car....it's rare I see people that have watches actually use them for their intended purpose.

I used to just use my phone for the time. Then I started riding a motorcycle, and it's really difficult to pull out my phone while flying down the highway or riding through the city. A wristwatch is much easier.

I didn't know they had those anymore. I saw them when mobile phones first became "popular" but it seems like a sort of douchebag thing to be sporting now. Not that it wasn't then too but you know what I mean.

Same with bluetooth headsets. Although I support them if you have to talk while driving. While still douchey, if it'll save me from a car wreck, I'm all for it.

This. A holster came with my Otterbox case, and I immediately threw it out. Never, will I ever, wear one of those. They're as bad as socks with sandals.

I love watches. I only wear one, and I can't afford the watches I'd really like to wear. But Fossil is good enough for me. And not wearing it feels as weird as not wearing my rings.

yeah +1 here.

Unfortunately is broken, has a little problem and gets stuck sometimes when getting to the middle of the hour because the hands for minutes and seconds get too close, I need to find a horologist, I guess I could try to fix it myself, the problem is simple enough, but I really don't want to mess with it.

I'll stick to my lightweight titanium Skagen for now thanks. Tho next time I'm on St Thomas I hope to have some extra funds to invest in a nice Movado. I do also have a cheap digital for times when I don't want to wear the nice one, but that's rare.

How can you tell? Because I actually do wear a jacket and gloves. I just tuck a bit of the glove and sleeve under the face of the watch, so I can see the watch face when I ride. You know, that part of the jacket sleeve and glove that are thinner at the wrist. But do go on. Tell me how the type of gloves and jacket I wear prevent me from wearing a watch. Really. Tell me. Because I'm interested to know how you can tell.

If wearing a watch is what what gives you an air of class then...whatever.

Why do the Bond films keep lying to me? I have the latest Omega watch and there's no laser. No detonator either. Unless it's this button....

Love my Seiko Automatic. Cheap, far better resistance to scratches and bumps than my cellphone, and doesn't need to get taken out of my pocket to check the time.

Only drawbacks are setting the time when you forget to wear it for a couple of days, and setting up the date when there's a month with less than 31 days.
