Ramirez was charged with reckless driving and operating without a driver's license.

I wonder if he ever had a license.

remember all those toyota uncommanded acceleration stories? you do know they never actually happened, right?

if you ever had the slightest doubt in your mind about the evil in the hearts of, well, "some" lawyers, read this:

Some of y'all are skirting the real issue here. Were there any accessories to this crime? There may be others tied in.

Yeah... looks like a Corolla S. He isn't elderly enough for it to have been a "defect." For some reason older drivers seemed to buy the "defective" cars.

This guy was only 18 so it must've been driver error.

Cool story, sis: Years ago, my mother-in-law was driving her then-new Saturn & pulled into a Dunkin' Donuts. Someone was backing out of the space next to her while she was pulling in, momentarily confusing her. She then hit the gas instead of the brake & crashed through the front window. Nobody was hurt, although the girls behind the counter were shaken up.

Months later, she's driving a different car and passes by the same Dunkin' Donuts. She wonders if the girls are still working there so that she can apologize. So, she pulls into the parking lot, again gets distracted by something, and plows through the front window again.

Although she's not retarded (despite the above evidence) and not particularly elderly (I think she's in her early 60s), some people just panic. Some drive through plate-glass windows, others drive through farmer's markets. At least in this kid's case, he can claim inexperience or panic. Either way, it just proves that sometimes people do stupid things in stressful situations.

If driving is 'stressful' maybe you shouldn't drive. That's the biggest issue I take with my wife's driving. She has been in three accidents (none were her fault) and is so worked up about getting hit that it's almost inevitable that she will cause an accident some day. I keep telling her that at low speeds it's highly unlike that anyone in the cars will be hurt and to frigging relax a little but nothing works.

that's what they get you to sign when you're given a ticket. "this is not an admission of guilt, just a promise that you'll either pay the fine or appear in court".

they don't haul you in and book you for traffic violations.
